Do You Have a Favorite Greek Yogurt?

We are preparing for our next taste test installment. This time, Greek yogurts. Recently, quite a few brands have been popping up, besides just the popular Fage. Do you have a favorite you want us to include?

56 Comments:

Trader Joe's makes a pretty tasty Greek style yogurt.

I love Oikos greek yogurt!

Seconding, TJ's Greek style! I'm also curious, how Stonyfield's Greek style taste?

I realize it's not something you can grab at any old grocery store, but the Yoghurt Place on Sullivan St, just above Canal has pretty amazing yogurt. And technically it is also available in Queens at Kesso Foods, so, SoHo, and Queens... that's kind of like a mass market!

I also enjoy the Trader Joes brand.

Fage is good, but Oikos is definitely my favorite! (Chobani is great too). But all PLAIN. None of those fruity add-ins.

There is one only one - TOTAL - imported from Greece. I believe it is available in the US

Trader Joe's brand is really tasty. (vanilla bean-yummmmmm)

Another vote for Oikos. I like plain, then add my own honey.

Oikos - Vanilla

Total 2% is my perfect Greek yoghurt.

I usually get the Trader Joe's Honey since it's convenient, and far cheaper than most of the other brands out there. I like the FAGE Total, but it costs 2-3x as much as Trader Joe's and has 2-3 times the calories and fat as well (at least the honey version).

I love love LOVE Fage, especially with honey!

Chobani! Preferably the honey, pomegranate, and pineapple flavors. I drive to other towns just to get this yogurt. Also, 1 dollar at Market Basket. and oh so yummy.

If I'm not buying Fage, then my next choice is Chobani (especially the peach one).

There's a brand called 3 Greek Gods yogurt that makes the absolute BEST pomegranate and honey flavors!!!

Another vote for both Trader Joes and Fage. I only buy the plain so perhaps you might want to do the plain and then the flavors.

I was going to suggest Trader Joe's and Chobani.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts on Oikos. Last time I tried it, I found it to be a bit runny, but maybe I got a bad batch?

I stick with Fage sweetened with agave and fresh figs

Trader Joe's. I still think fage tastes slightly better, but TJ's price wins out.

I don't know if this breaks the rules, but I think you should taste test skyr icelandic yogurt-cheese against greek yogurt to see how they compare.

Fage is the only brand for me!

Liberte Yogury (Plain)!

Fage is pretty good as is Trader Joe's but I'm going to cop out and say that the greek yogurt I get from the farmer's market is the best! (Blue Ridge Farms I think is the vendor)

Fage is always #1 for me. I usually stick with the 0%, but sometimes I get the higher fat content version for a special treat.

Chobani comes in second place, but mostly for the cheaper price point. It's good (not great) and more affordable on those shopping trips when money is tight.

I tried Oikos once, but did not care for it.

I vote for TJs and Chobani. I also thought that Oikos was kinda runny. And definitely plain over any flavored ones.

Fage 2% plain is just unbeatable. A perfect food. TJ's is similar and a little better priced, though the containers are also a little smaller (not a huge difference, granted). I get a chalky flavor in Chobani and Oikos (and a chalky texture in the Chobani as well).

Straining Stonyfield's normal plain yogurt and adding a bit of honey does the trick too!

Chobani!! They have some really great flavors, and it's often on sale at 10 for 10.

Though I'm also partial to plain Fage with some granola sprinkled on top!

In addition to brands already suggested, Cabot makes a greek yogurt. It's hard to find, though, even in stores that carry Cabot butter and cheese, so I'm not sure if it make sense to test.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Voskos!!!!! It is my favorite by far! Fage and chobani are a bit too tart (almost to the point of bitterness) and Oikos is too runny. Voskos is the best on the market and actually sells you a FULL CUP (gasp) of yogurt rather than the 5.3 oz and 6 oz containers. It makes me sad there are no Trader Joe's in Colorado :-(

Brown Cow just started their own Greek yogurt as well.

I don't have a Trader Joes or Whole Foods, but I'm stuck on Fage (0% and 2%) and Oikos--both plain. I cannot stand sweetened yogurt and despite the cost, I will never stray away from the Greek from now on!

chobani and stonyfield oikos!

I have very few to choose from, but I like Cabot followed by Chobani.

Fage (the 2%) is my favorite. I've tried others, but always go back to Fage.

you know, i find mountain high yogurt to have a consistency that rivals even the best gree yogurts. but of those marketed as greek style yogurt, i like oikos

Total = Fage.

I like this Fage the best. It's what they use all over Greece. While in Crete, we had yogurt with spoon fruits after every meal. Utterly delicious!

The only ones I've seen are Fage, Oikos and Chobani.

I prefer Fage. Oikos and Chobani taste like chalk.

I love Fage! Oikos is a very distant second. Chobani is chalky and not so good.

I get TJ's regular goat's milk yogurt, and strain it down to a Greek yogurt consistency. Its a little work for outstanding results.

I'm curious about the Stonyfield - I usually grab TJ or Fage, just because they're so prevalent.

@jay27 - I agree with you; Voskos is my favorite too! I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned more than once in this thread...

3 Greek Gods is my second choice, after Voskos.

As for the Oikos (Stonyfield), I don't really care for any of them except for the strawberry flavor... the plain, vanilla, and honey flavors all have a strange, chalky consistency; I don't know how the strawberry flavor managed to escape the same fate, but it is the only Oikos flavor that I ever buy.

I agree with Oikos being running. I buy TJ's simply because it's cheaper, but I love Fage.

The Greek Gods honey flavor. One of the best things I've ever eaten.

Cabot's Greek Style yogurt - their low-fat vanilla bean is our current favorite, and gotta love that it's made in Vermont!

I think Oikos, Chobani, and pretty much all the others I have tried taste vile.

It's Fage or Trader Joe's for me.

Liberté Méditerranée or Astro Balkan Style - but maybe only in Canada?

Fage with honey is fantastic
Tried Oikos and didn't care for it, same with Chobani.
Cabot's is hard to find but I did and it was a dissappointment. There is a local European, Turkish, Greek foodstore around here that I hear makes their own that I need to try. That said however, I really only like Fage as far as grocery store Greek yogurts are concerned.

Greek Gods Yogurt - Honey Flavor

oikos w/ honey!!

Cabot's Plain Greek Style Yogurt is absolutely wonderful! The price is right, too....much less expensive that Fage. Trader Joe's brand yogurt is also very good....especially the Honey flavoured. I like plain yogurt with a dollop of lemon curd....YUMMY!

Fage is fine but way too expensive.....rather make it myself than pay that amount. Oixos and Chobani, not so much.
