Make Your Own Monkey Bread

I'd be a lot more excited about Monday morning if I had started it off with a big hunk of monkey bread—a sweet, cinnamony breakfast bread made of fused-together balls of dough, begging to be torn apart with sticky fingers. The Picky Cook has a scrumptious-looking recipe for making one from scratch, along with a gorgeous step-by-step photo tutorial. But if this looks like too much of a project, the King Arthur Flour Classic Monkey Bread mix ain't half bad, either.

Yummy! Too yummy in fact - how can you resist picking away at this kind of thing until it's almost gone?

I haven't made monkey bread in ages but for those considering it, remember, it's as satisfying to eat as cinnamon buns but less fussy to shape. Well worth the minimal effort.

Thank you for posting this! It's been about a decade since I've had monkey bread, and I was just trying to explain to a friend what it was a couple weeks ago... hopefully now she'll believe me that it exists :-)

My boss's wife made a batch of these for us recently, they were irresistible. She also sent him into the office with a batch of gorilla bread.

Gorilla bread is the same concept, however each ball of dough is stuffed with cream cheese before baked. THAT was awesome.

Thank you, now I have an insatiable craving for anything monkey bread or cinnamon roll-like!

The best thing about monkey bread is that it is a very kid friendly recipe using canned biscuit dough. Skip the homemade dough and get the kids in the kitchen for some great memories and delious results.

the monkey bread from Rose Beranbaum's Bread Bible is unbelievable!!!!I had never had monkey bread before I made that. I don't make it very often since I would eat the majority of it if it was left alone!!!!

Thanks for the post! Really appreciate it!

King Arthur also just had a tutorial on Monkey Bread on their Baker's Banter blog, here.

Thanks for posting that recipe, I will put it to use when my son comes home for 2 weeks at the end of the summer. Looks great!

I'm with npfldmom. The only Monkey Bread I've ever had was made using canned buttermilk biscuit dough. Takes me back to childhood on the Jersey Shore...

I've seen two kinds of monkey bread: yeast dough and biscuit dough. I've only made the latter, because I'm impatient, but is one better than the other?
