Haiku Lunchbox

20090804-haikulunchbox.jpg

When you're eating lunch, do you ever feel inspired to write three metrical phrases about it? Haiku Lunchbox looks like the beginning of a great site devoted to food poetry. So far there are only four entries, but I felt inspired to compose a fifth:

Salty meats, damp loaf
From jars of olive salad
Muffuletta, love

Erin: Wha? I expected an oatmeal haiku from you!

i agree. but there can never be enough poetry about muffulettas... damp loaf- love it.

"Haiku Lunchbox" is a great name. I'll have to add this one to my RSS reader. I've been writing food poetry for my own blog for a while now, having food-related "poetry Tuesdays" whenever possible, but haiku has only made a couple of appearances.

My lunch today?

Peanut butter bed
Made for a tongue to lie in --
Such cold jellied sheets.

veg and assorted
items oddly combined
sad midtown salad

Fun! This gets added to the RSS reader. Here's my own contribution for my healthier throwback to my elementary school lunches:

Delicious sandwich
Healthy veggie chips abound
Is it lunchtime yet?

I wrote this one the day of the moon landing launch, 7/16/69, but it fits here:

The ripe sun that hung
From an unseen branch peeked through
The fleecy leaf-cloud

@Adam and sblatteis: I'm saving it for the Haiku Breakfast Tray site!

baconnaise, a bold new choice
