Video: How to Make Brownies in a Waffle Iron
I'm going to use this recipe for making brownies in a waffle iron as an excuse to eat brownies for breakfast. "They're shaped like waffles! It's OK!" Watch the video after the jump.

Don't try this with an Italian Pizzelle maker. My old waffle maker had removable plates that had an additional insertable plate to make the Italian waffle cookies. I think the grooves in the pattern were too close together and I was never able to get all the brownie batter out of the grooves (and I tried everything!). A non-stick surface is probably a good thing with this, I'd hesitate to try it with an older waffle maker without a non-stick surface. Even non-stick cooking spray didn't help my brownie-pizzelle disaster.

One of my favorite cookies as a child was "turtles" which were basically chocolate cookies baked in a waffle iron...that resembled a turtle.
Here's a photo on waffledude.com of something similar.

just google "waffle turtle cookie" and you can find a ton of recipes...but make sure you top them with chocolate frosting...that's how my mom made them!

Ah! Procrastination pays off! I made waffles this morning and have yet to put away the iron. It's a sign...

Looks great, but as a time saver, will a brownie mix do?

Just make sure you save a few to spread ice cream on to make a sandwich. I personally like coffee IC, but could be persuaded to try other things. Maybe raspberry sorbet? Talk about a great dessert to have on hand in the freezer - if you can keep out of the package yourself.

I am happy to report that if you only have 5.7 oz of chocolate and espresso on hand (instead of 6 oz and instant coffee powder), this recipe still works. Topped with CSA sour cherries and powdered sugar, they were divine!

Oh my, adding this to the must make list!

I am definitely going to make this tonight. Was looking for other ways to use my new waffle maker.
