The 'United Plates': Food-Themed Prints of All 50 States

We love it when people play with their food. Shorthanded Studio has a set of fifty food-themed prints (dubbed the "United Plates")—designed and silk-screened by Kansas artist John Wayne H., each depicts one of the fifty states in culinary form. Some are a little farfetched (Texas is just a Texas-shaped pile of peas), but others are dead-on: Kentucky as a chicken leg, Maine as a potholder, and poor Connecticut as a TV dinner. Prints $15 each, $35 for 3, available online.

Why does CT get a TV dinner. That is sad. We are the nutmeg state... could have at least done nutmeg.

I loved the visuals in this series, but I think everyone will agree when I say that the illustrations should have been food that pertained to each state.
But that's just my two cents.

Peas for Texas? PEAS FOR TEXAS? No bueno.

I looked at the two states that I have called home, and both were so off it comes close to offensive.

I can't for the life of me figure out what TN's is. I agree these could of been great, but a lot are merely, eh... But as a native Kentuckian, I do want to buy that one!

I can't figure out what NJ is. The caption says it's braided bread and one of the responses says Challah. I've never seen any bread that looks like that though.

Agreed that some of these aren't the best illustrations, but I love, love, love Michigan.

I agree I wanted to like these but every state I have a connection to I either couldn't tell what it was or it had nothing to do with the state. What are NJ and TN? And salad for NY? Cherry pie for NC? Hmm...

I'm pretty sure TN is pancakes with syrup running down the side...errr I think...

These are so stinkin' clever! How in the world did he come up with all of these ideas?

It's not easy being a Connecticutian. I suppose at least we're not an empty plate like Wyoming...

Illinois as a grilled chicken breast? I'm not too impressed.
Also, I don't understand why Maine is an oven mitt? Love Kentucky!

nachos for PA? I was expecting a hoagie, and Wisconsin should clearly be some sort of sausage or cheese! But, some of these are pretty cute, and it is definitely a clever idea.
