Weekend Cook and Tell: Going Solo
Last week's Weekend Cook and Tell was all about going solo, cooking, eating, and dining alone. We wanted to hear all about what you eat when you are alone, whether cooking for yourself or eating out as a party of one. Some of you find it to be a bit of a chore, or even worse while others relish the prospect of a meal alone. Here is a selection of some of our favorite responses:
Malecki took this challenge as an opportunity to eat all of the things that his boyfriend isn't a big fan of. Take a look at this salad: rare steak, runny eggs, and a dirty martini? I think malecki's boyfriend is missing out!
Betteirene uses her solo nights to splurge on ingredients that might be too pricey for a crowd, such as a porterhouse or a nice piece of halibut.
Cooking for one doesn't have to be a chore, Dcarl1 made a wonderful meal of home-made chapattis, sweet and sour bitter melon, red lentil dal, and raita. That sounds like a meal that I would love to enjoy alone or with a group.
2Burger2Petsi uses meals alone as a chance to un-eat, namely the dinner that is an assortment of cheeses along with a loaf of bread and a bottle of wine. If this is un-eating, then I un-eat all of the time!
My buddy Puotinen used her solo meal in a big diner breakfast. Not being a morning person, I think that breakfast is a meal best enjoyed on your own.
Feistyfoodie loves cooking for one. Some recent meals include cornmeal-crusted pan fried dover sole with dill tartar sauce and roasted broccoli, and spaghetti with leafy greens sprinkled with crushed red pepper flakes and topped with goat cheese.
Newly graduated from college, Wayward Daughter is living with a roommate that subsists on a diet of frozen burritos. It seems like she is doing pretty well for herself with chicken legs with pesto, sautéed onions and mushrooms, and avocado and grapefruit salad.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this week's Weekend Cook and Tell challenge. It is always wonderful to hear about what all of you are cooking up at home and eating out! Head over to Talk to read about this week's challenge: picnics!
