What's the Prettiest Dessert You've Ever Seen?

At the Blue Bottle Coffee Bar, in the Rooftop Garden at the San Francisco MOMA, pastry chef Caitlin Williams Freeman sculpts desserts that model the paintings within the museum—like the Piet Mondrian-style cake pictured above.

Food is often called a form of art, but this cake is pretty incredible. What's the prettiest dessert that you've ever seen?

Filipino Ube Cake

I'm still not convinced that this was "natural" colouring;
absolutely breathtaking colour.

About ten years ago I had the most beautiful dessert at Marquesa, which used to be in the Scottdale Princess hotel. (The restaurant has since closed.) The presentation came on a plate shaped like an artist's palette and included sauces spread like paint and a chocolate miniature of a Salvador Dali painting (I think it was "The Persistence of Memory") on a tiny easel. Gorgeous AND tasty!

Of course, this was before cell phone cameras and food blogging, so I doubt that there is a picture anywhere on line. But if anyone knows where one can be found, I would love to see the plating again!

Hah! I just had a slice of the Mondrian cake this weekend! It was quite tasty.

And I would vote for the Tomboy cake from Miette Patisserie as prettiest - funny that it turns out to be the same baker (I had no idea until I followed the link).

came across this site when I was Googling for "decoration" + "cake" in Japanese. can't believe she's not a pro.

I guess I'm just a savory person. I am not thrilled by desserts, tasty or otherwise. That's why I don't like all the cake shows.

Jacques Torres made a baby grand piano (miniature) out of chocolate and filled the inside with chocolate mousse for us when he was at Le Cirque
