Dorie G's spiced cranberry bundt! Also love a good texas sheet cake.

definitely carrot cake. it's my go-to comfort food.

Chocolate spice cake.

Seven layer. There's just something comforting about it. And you get frosting with every bite.

pineapple upside down cake

Spice cake with rum cream cheese frosting.

Yes. I love cake. I can't pick just one, but my wife would pick carrot cake.

momofuku chocolate chip passion fruit cake :) yum!

Easy! My Grandma's homemade dark rum cake where she doubles the amount of rum for which the recipe calls.

Twenty-Layer Crêpes Cake Brûlée... decadent and delicious

ice cream cake. Ideally, mint chocolate chip ice cream with chocolate cake.

Does sacher torte mit schlag count as cake? If not, I vote for Jean-Georges Vongericthen's winter-spiced molten chocolate cakes (preferably served with Gale Gand's mascarpone-crystallized ginger ice cream)!

My favorite kind of cake is cake. Any kind of cake. Any kind at all.

I have an old-school affection for yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Frosting must be whipped; straight ganache ruins it!

i'm a huge fan of upside down cake in all its forms.

carrot cake. better get your piece now cause if it stays near me it's disappearing fast!

coconut lime cake.

I love the flavor of carrot cake, the color of red velvet and the texture of angel food. Can't quite commit to a single favorite.

amanda hesser's almond cake

Those cupcakes made of meatlof with whipped sweet potato "frosting".

Pineapple upside down cake is one of my favorites!

flourless chocolate cake

cannoli cake from an italian bakery in connecticut. doesn't matter which one!

There is no cake.
Otherwise it would be pistachio cake that a friend's mother makes. :)

Ooooh tough choice! But any chocolate marbled cheesecake wins, hands down!!!

my favorite cake is white on white. classic. (and i believe you can have neither too many threadless tees nor enough cake!)

Giant Carrot Cakes from either the Tremont Hotel in Baltimore or the west coast chain, Claim Jumper. Both are enormous and delicious!

I love cheesecake! Preferably a chocolate cheesecake if possible!

Is it wrong that I went to pastry school, intern at a bakery, yet still love boxed cake? Give me some Dunkin Hines yellow cake with chocolate frosting (not from a can, though. I actually make that), and I'll eat the whole thing. Sad, but true

Why pick one? But if pushed, I would have to say classic yellow cake with chocolate frosting.

I've been digging on red velvet cake recently.

Strawberry poppyseed with lime curd in the middle, and cream cheese frosting!

I'm partial to the Brooklyn Cream cake at Two Little Red Hens/Ladybird Bakery -- fudge frosting, moist yellow cake, pastry cream filling -- but they also make an excellent cheesecake. Also, strawberry shortcake (with real shortbread, not regular cake) is pretty strong.

italian style cheesecake

Carrot cake because I'm a sucker for cream cheese icing and the spiciness of carrot cake is the perfect balance.

My mother's brownies

Ricotta Cheesecake!

Boston cream

Lemon cake with cream cheese frosting--yum!

The Cake Doctor cookbook has a recipe for boxed cake that substitutes melted ice cream for the liquids. I love to make devils food with melted Ben & Jerry's Half Baked – then, there are chunks of brownie and chunks of chocolate chip cooking INSIDE your devils food!

(White cake mix with melted Ben & Jerry's Pistachio Pistachio is a good choice, too…)

My mother's apple walnut cake. Baked in a tube pan, no icing, just a sprinkling of powdered sugar. Amazing taste of apples, spices and of course the crunch of walnuts.

Coconut pound cake is my favorite.

My favorite kind of cake is cake - a little frosting, maybe, but mostly I just like cake. Preferably without nuts or coconut or raisins. And I definitely prefer homemade.

Speaking of cake, today's my husband's birthday and I'd better get baking! (He's having strawberry short cake, with strawberries from the CSA, in case you're wondering).

The Mango Mousse cake from a bakery near my parent's house -- Two layers of yellow sponge cake and two layers of fresh mango mousse decorated with fresh fruits OR the Chocolate Grand Marnier -- Thin layers of chocolate mousse and chocolate chiffon cake soaked in Grand Marnier syrup with a touch of orange marmalade. Finished with pure Belgian chocolate ganache.
I want cake for breakfast now...

HELLOOOO...only the best kind ever - funfetti cake with rainbow chip frosting!!!!!!!!!!! Does it get any better than that?? Does it??? no, it doesn't.

chocolate peanut butter ganache cake

When I was little, it was German chocolate cake. My mom loves to tell me how I would call it "German shepherd cake". apparently we knew someone with a German shepherd and well, I was like 5 or 6 and really couldn't understand WHY everyone thought it was so funny whenver I mentioned my favorite cake!

I'd have to say now, any chocolate cake, but specifically one that I make. It's one of the best I've ever had! Or, I could also say a chocolate lava cake with the molten center. Gawd that stuff is too good!

Really moist yellow cake with chocolate fudge icing.

Carrot cake! It amazes me that carrots can turn into something that fattening and delicious.

Does strawberry shortcake count as a cake? Because That's my choice.

i make this "death by chocolate" or whatever and it has cashews ontop with chocolate chips, then the center is a date/chocolate mix theni put even more chocolate chips in hte center because i can!

Lemon Poppyseed Bundt Cake!

Classic vanilla with plenty of vanilla buttercream. Of course the buttercream is dyed with all sorts of fun colors. Somehow it makes it taste better. How I dont know.

http://dessertbuzz.com/?p=66

Cold chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream frosting. But really, any kind of cake - yum!

Make me a strawberries n whipped cream cake please.

I absolutely *love* gingerbread cake with a light vanilla (not lemon - too acidic for a cake) glaze - bundt cake form, if possible. I would even have that for my wedding cake. :)

COCONUT CAKE! CREAM CHEESE FROSTING!

German chocolate, lots of coconut pecan frosting.

I love coffee cake, especially when it's really moist and the outside is kindof crunchy and has lots of cinnamon.

oh that's easy. tres leches!!

Chocolate cake covered with chocolate ganache.

Any kind of cake that I can have, and eat it too.

My Granny Schutza's German Chocolate Cake

I am a sucker for a good cheesecake, and my favorite cheesecake is dolce de leche cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory, Every time I go there I have intentions of ordering a different kind but cannot get over the fact that I will be highly disappointed that I did not order the dolce de leche, so that is what I get!

Chocolate cake with fresh strawberries.

carrot cake...or panda cake, but i guess that's just a book.

Red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting!!!

Ice cream cake with mint-chocolate chip ice cream and chocolate cake. YUM.

Strawberry shortcake. Or any cake from Extraordinary Desserts in San Diego. I miss that place!

Toasted coconut cake. Pushing coconut into the icing is not enough for me, however. To be truly coconut cake, I think you need to mix coconut into the batter. The coconut mixed into the batter need not be toasted, but toasting the coconut before smashing as much as possible into the icing is a must!

Swiss Cherry Torte - white cake with a frosting and cherries...

Carrot cake!

Chocolate cake, chocolate icing. Lots of icing.

White cake with chocolate marshmellow fluff icing

even though I'm a chocoholic, my favorite is moist yellow cake with a chocolatey, fudgey icing. I guess the cake is just an excuse to eat the icing...

Plain cheesecake. Can't go wrong with that!

Strawberry shortcake - heavy on the strawberry & shortcake, light on the cream.

Spice cake! Or coconut cake! Or German Chocolate cake! Or "insert name" cake here...I'm really not picky when it comes to this food :)

An old fashioned coconut cake with the frosting you make over a double broiler!

Can you go wrong with a classic chocolate layer cake? Ohhhh but I do love those molten chocolate cakes with caramel sauce and ice cream...like the one gordon ramsay makes..chocolate fondants. On the caramel strain...sticky toffee puddings! And I just made a carrot cake and was dipping my finger (read whole hand) in the cream cheese frosting and had to have an internal fight with myself to stop.

How about we just settle on cake...all cakes, I'm not prejudice.

Dark chocolate cake with peanut-butter frosting!

Or pineapple upside-down cake.

THIS ONE!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/vsoch/1370362367/

It's a simple Yellow cake from a cookbook my parents got for their wedding (back in the stone age) with semi-sweet chocolate chunks, a chocolate Devil's food cake in the middle, all held together with home made buttercream frosting and rainbows. If you don't use semi-sweet, or don't beat the batter correctly, it's not right. If you nix the rainbows, it's not right either. With a glass of milk, this is the cake I want waiting for me in heaven.

Southern Coconut, yes, m'am.

My mom has this tattered recipe for pistachio (jello pudding!) marble bundt cake from a 1973 good housekeeping. My teenagers still request this as their birthday cake year after year. I borrow the recipe each time and return it to the recipe box when finished. I still have the avocado green bundt pan that my mom used when she made it back then.

I like strawberry filled cakes and coconut cake.

Coconut or chocolate! Better yet, Chocolate coconut cake.

Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting using the recipes from America's Test Kitchen--the frosting is made in a food processor, is smooth and creamy and incredibly chocolately and good without being too sweet.

ice cream cake...with that layer of fudge....mmmm

Black Forest - the real deal homemade with kirsh and sour cherries

Birthday cake!!

About twice a year, I eat one of those Asian mooncakes with fruit and nuts during lunar celebrations. Some of them have the cooked yolk in it which is beautiful when you cut it in half. I have eaten them when it wasn't a lunar holiday and it doesn't taste as good. So it's all about the moon. And a cup of tea.

Carrot cake with pineapple, coconut, walnuts and of course, carrot - topped off with cream cheese frosting.

red velvet without doubt

Devil's Food with German Chocolate Frosting.

Carrot cake, but without nuts. And the icing can't be overly sweetened. The tang of the cream cheese has to come through.

Although in the summer one of the best ways to enjoy the bounty of berries is over angel food cake, making it a close second.

I love all cake, but if I had to choose, the most interesting would be the grapefruit cake from Disney World.

swirl pound cake with strawberry slices, vanilla ice cream, and whipped cream. wonderful memories & wonderfully tasting!

That's hard as I LOVE cake, but I'm going to have to go with my mom's yogurt cake. I once ate half of one in one sitting, it was so good!!!

Anything chocolate that didn't come out of a box, preferably with ganache involved.

Spice cake with cinnamon streusel

homemade carrot cake with a generous helping of cream cheese frosting.

Epicurious' Chocolate Ganache cake is the best chocolate cake I've ever tasted.
