It may not feel like it in many parts of the country, but summer has officially arrived. And in New Jersey, that means tomatoes—like these guys, at the Sorbello Girls Farm Market in Elks Township. Let the eating begin.

Maters and cukes are in! That means corn can't be far behind .. YAY!

I live in south jersey where we're lucky enough to have farm markets everywhere and Sorbello Girls is one of the best. Even riding thru the orchards and farm land on Rt. 77 is heaven. Jersey like it used to be ... like it ought to be.

@nesea - glad to hear it-- rt. 77 must be beautiful! when south jersey starts getting maters and cukes that means it's movin' on up the line!!!! we wait a long time for these great days ..... get the salt shakers ready....

yes, I noticed this at a farmer's market here in central Jersey! Jersey tomatoes are such a fabulous thing. My mid-western born hubby has come to get excited about summer now. He knows that those yummy tomatoes will be at their peak.

Man, I can't wait to make a proper salad with grilled chicken and a ripe NJ tomato!

Amazing. And gorgeous. It must have been really, really hot in Jersey in the past few weeks to get them this early.

Ooooh really? We don't have tomatoes this early in the Midwest! Lucky!

We don't have them this early in California either, well we don't have any worth eating this early anyway.

@pooch, the ride is heaven. These are early days for tomatoes in jersey too. I bet these babies were started and nutured under the cover of that white plastic nursery stuff before maturing outside. I was riding through Salem County today and the corn was only about 3 feet tall. Still a ways to go yet for that but blueberries are in ... yum. My favorite time (besides the corn, tomatoes, cukes and berries:) is when the peaches come in. There's a local peach festival that's not to be missed.

Happy summertime everyone!
