How Olives Get Into Olive Loaf, and Other Food Mysteries Solved

OK, so you might already know why popcorn pops or why Jell-O gels, but this Chicago Tribune piece also covers some mysteries I didn't know or didn't even think about. It turns out Slim Jims actually do have a shelf life (a comforting thought), but as for how the olives get into olive loaf?
First of all, I've only seen olive loaf on TV so I can't vouch for its taste, but even if you do love it, would you really want to know how it's made? Blargh.
