Look Who's Talkin': Comments, Quips, and Tips We Have Known and Loved

There's so much going on in Talk week to week that we almost can't keep up. If you're in the same boat, here's a small selection of topics and responses that have piqued our interest this week.

Bad Kitchen Habits

Look Who's Talkin'"Great topic, and plenty to identify with in all of the comments so far. My worst kitchen habit is cooking barefoot. One of these days my chef's knife is going to land business-side down and it's going to hurt." mother91

Roasting a Chicken and Baking a Cake at the Same Time?

"I've baked pies and a turkey simultaneously at Thanksgiving, and had no serious consequences; ditto meatloaf and cobbler at another time of the year. But YMMV. If it's deeply serious in terms of time constraints, try it. Otherwise, cake first." lemons

Breakfast/Meal Bars: Way or No Way?

"I've never been a big fan of sawdust and rubber cement." Martini Me

My Children Are Bottomless Pits!

"Thanks everyone for your suggestions and recipes. I'm going to make some homemade granola and protein bars this weekend, and some homemade mac and cheese and put it in tupperwares for them to heat up for lunches. I'm also doing the burrito thing, and I'm going to show them how to make their own english muffin "pizzas" using whole wheat english muffins, homemade marinara and some shredded cheeses. I think they'll have fun with that and they can toast them themselves in the toaster oven...." juliebugsmama

Tomato Sauce Outta Can? Gross!

"I forgot to say that one of our local TV stations reached out to the Italian community several years ago now, and got half a dozen Italian ladies to come in and test jarred and tinned sauces - for some reason, every one of those ladies was elderly - they tasted at least a dozen different sauces over the course of the day and they unanimously agreed one sauce to be the best and most like "homemade" — it was a tin of Unico (I am in Canada, so I don't know if it is in the U.S. as well,) plain, and the cheapest of the lot at under $1." bareneed

Trying to Use Less Butter

"Life is short, butter is good...enjoy life with butter and make changes in other places." dmcavanagh

"I would totally kiss the person who first used her husband's rasp grater on an orange and went on to found Microplane." cybercita
