Chocolate You Breathe

lewhif.jpg

Have you ever wanted some chocolate, but not wanted to deal with that whole chewing thing? Thankfully, someone designed a product for you. Called Le Whif, it is a miniature inhaler that sprays calorie-free chocolate into your mouth. Developed by David Edwards of Harvard, it supposedly fits into the progression of how we eat:

Over the centuries we've been eating smaller and smaller quantities at shorter and shorter intervals. It seemed to us that eating was tending toward breathing, so, with a mix of culinary art and aerosol science, we've helped move eating habits to their logical conclusion. We call it whiffing.

Le Whif is available in four flavors: mint chocolate, raspberry chocolate, mango chocolate, and plain chocolate.

What does spray chocolate taste like? Mark Wilson of Gizmodo weighs in with these words: "The sensation is akin to sucking a tiny bit of cocoa powder through a straw. And while not necessarily enjoyable in any way, it was admittedly a lot of chocolate flavor for only .8 calories a stick."

Does David Edwards ever actually eat chocolate? Because the texture of it is one of the reasons I love it. Besides which, when you breathe something in it isn't going into your stomach, it's going into your lungs. That isn't 'eating'.

Haha! I like JamieForrest's answer!

Funny, I'm pretty sure there is already a term for "breathing food" - I've always called it "smelling".

This stuff sounds like torture. How could a "whiff" of chocolate be satisfying when you want to eat it?

Oh I totally agree that this idea is moronic, but think about how much money people are willing to spend on stuff like weight watchers and alli and nutrisystem... This guy is going to make a million bucks.

Ok....the timing of this article is really ironic considering how I was wondering just a few hours ago if anyone had ever considered chocolate chewing gum. I'm not saying that it would be good....it was just one of those random ideas that popped into my head...

'whiffing' now, huh?

i remember 'huffing' those smelly markers in grade school.

that wasn't very satisfying & i can't imagine this would be either.

he prolly will make bank on it tho.

so bizarre.

This product seems very "Blumenthal" to me - you know the way he sprays malt vinegar in the air when he serves fish and chips?

I do worry that breathing in stuff like this will prove to be not so healthy in the long run.

Seriously?? I mean..... seriously??

@kimberlymac-Bubble Yum (or one of the brands like it) used to make a chocolate mint gum. It wasn't good. At all.
