In Videos: Man Eats Bricks
![]()
A man in India eats rocks and bricks. Yeah, not so food-related, but pretty impressive—if it's real. (I have my doubts.)

That hurts just looking at it....lol.

Yes, it's impressive...but what interests me even more than how he did it...is why he did it. Is this really the legacy this dude wants to leave?

Sad and gross.
He probably has pica.
"Pica occurs throughout the world. Geophagia is the most common form of pica in people who live in poverty and people who live in the tropics and in tribe-oriented societies. Pica is a widespread practice in western Kenya, southern Africa, and India."
"Infants and children commonly ingest paint, plaster, string, hair, and cloth. Older children tend to ingest animal droppings, sand, insects, leaves, pebbles, and cigarette butts. Adolescents and adults most often ingest clay or soil."

Err, I heard that just chewing on ice damages the enamel on your teeth (I'm sure I could check somewhere like Wikipedia to make sure, but I'm lazy). How has he not worn his teeth down to the nubs after all these years of rock munching?

@hungryhungryhippo: Yeah. That's why I have my doubts as to whether this is real.

I thought that said "cocks" in the subtitles. Am I banned from commenting?

Mmm, pica. The true foodie disease. "Yesterday, I had a fine cretaceous with a nose of coelacanth, with hints of wild pterodactyl spoor. It was simply *divine*."

@chinolam: I thought the same thing the first two times I watched it. Gives a whole new meaning to eating rocks.

Maybe he's vegetarian and the alternative was a big mac. Although if faced with the same situation, I'm not sure I could bring myself to eat either.

ah, thus the origin of the phrase "sh-t a brick" - always thought it was hyperbole.

...I think I learned my lesson from drunk late-night commenting on food blogs. My mom would be ashamed.
chinolam at 10:46AM on 05/12/09
@christopher - i'm laughing out loud!
