cool, thanks!

btw, you might need to find a new sponsor for Hog Island, as Jeanty at Jack's shut their doors after dinner tonight.

Oh yum, I want to go to the Anchor Bar so badly right now. A true Buffalo classic, I'm glad they're being represented in the festival!

Interesting that, after shipping the ingredients from New York's LES to California, a Katz Pastrami Sandwich is cheaper in California than in New York!

The whole Katz's pastrami sandwich at the fest is a little smaller than the whole sandwich you get at the deli in New York.

Black Raspberry icecream...mmmm. Brings back memories of roaming the thorny patches in the woods behind our house for black berries and raspberries. Of course we ate more than what we came back with and then mom would always take us down to the Eskimo icecream stand for a Black Raspberry cone.

It's like a culinary tour around the country without any traffic! I am hysterically excited!!!!

where's the pizza?

It's too bad they couldn't book any A-list musical acts. The food sounds amazing, though.

OMG so jealous of anyone attending....

Mmmmmm....Benton's Bacon. Their bacon makes me happy to live in Tennessee, especially since many Nashvegas restaurants have caught on to the local food movement and serve me Benton's BLTs!!

So the upshot here is that I can have the privilege of paying $35 for 9 hrs. of Little Feat, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Food Network personnel, one "plate of food free," and the ability to sample offering from 17 purveyors, fully five of which I can easily get anytime I want (It's It; Hog Island; Charles; Bouchon; Burgermeister) and a fair number of selections that don't seem to fit what I perceive at least to have been an attempt to bring the best of unreachable American iconic foods within arms' reach in one place (artisanal BLT, PB&J, most of those already mentioned)...?

If there's anything here to sweeten the deal (5 beer or wine tasting coupons, for example? a roster of wine and beers available perhaps?) I haven't found it in the marketing. I was certain I'd attend, but I've changed my mind.

Anywhere that's serving up Graeter's sounds like the place to be. Check out the article I wrote about my home town favorite... it's really big news! http://www.thedishsdish.com/blog/2009/04/graeters-for-all/

I live in SF bay area and you bet I will attend - I hope this is just the beginning of what would be an annual. Kudos to Ed for doing the homework coordinating the vendors. It's a collection of American's finest all in one place. My only concern is that due to transport, space limitation or other restrictions, people will not taste the true original as they are intended to be. Please, please, do your best to avoid this.

If I can make a suggestion, I see one misrepresented from Nawlins'. Although Cajun & Creole foundations are french-based, they are truly America's. The spices, the ingredients, the culture and heritage - eversince I left Texas, I can't find good cajun food anywhere. Not to mention to re-promote New Orleans! Beignets from Cafe du Monde comes to mind... Jambalayas, Etouffee, Pupusas, Tchoupitoulas, and of course Gumbos. Shoreline Ampitheathre is a huge open space and albeit in Summer, it's often cool and windy. So can't go wrong with spicy, hearty type. Good luck Ed and SE!

Ed- Looks great, one question, NO BBQ? Nothing?

: (

I am going. And while Oakland Aaron makes a very reasonable point about the variety of vedors, and the excitement level most people will have over the musical talent (these are the sorts of groups that generally play arts & culture festivals, fairs and the like) my hope is that it will be popular enough to justify becoming an annual event. Once it does, it might be easier to attract a wider variety of food purveyers and musical talent.

Prairie- there's brisket from Southside in Elgin, TX.

@Prairie. Southside Market from Elgin, Texas, will be serving its incomparable, super-juicy smoked sausage and brisket. And as the Brooklyn Dodgers used to say, wait 'till next year. More barbecue from different regions should be at the fest. Stay tuned.

I guess when I think BBQ I naturally think pulled pork. I'm sure next year will bring more faces. Still wish I was there!

Hi Ed,

What happened? We were just at the festival today, amongst 3000 others, and we felt short-changed. As bay area local who frequented Shoreline Ampitheatre for sold-out concerts, this event was a catastrophe. Organization wise, it was chaotic. To summarize:

1. The wait to get in (even for ticket holders) was 60+ minutes, snaking from the dusty parking lot. It was apparent at the gate that slow entrance was attributed to wristband-slapping process to each ticket holders.

2. Once in, there's another 40+ minutes wait to put deposit on wristband at ironically called "Fast Pass Stand". No one understand how the "hi tech" wristband works - one advised activation, others said not necessary. An agent at fast pass informed refund can be done at information booth, yet info both denied authority.

3. Then there's another 90+ minutes wait in line to order your food of choice. Since your first plate of food is included with ticket price, the choice was pretty obvious as there are only 2 vendors with a $12 price tag. We arrived at 12:20, and didn't have a single bite until 3:30. All the while, no music, drinks or announcement. Just standing in line.

4. Ofcourse, with all new technology and wired systems, there's a glitch. By the time you get to order your food, the scanning device failed. Your purchase can not go thru. Rendering waits you bear, deposits you made, stupid wristband start-up technology, major screw ups, all fruitless effort on an otherwise nice Saturday. This happens to most everyone I talked to. A lot of pissed ticket holders.

I've been to Shoreline multiple times, and I've never experienced worst. Surely the venue & employees was not the issue. Was it Live Nation got too greedy, over-selling tickets? Silly wristband technology company that doesn't work, lobbied by lowest bidder? Event organizers dropped the ball, not anticipating the outcome?

Whatever the reasons, I think all these could have been avoided by simply thinking it through. If you're going to make a rule that all first purchase will be free, you bet mass are going to swarm highest priced vendors. This was not anticipated as lines spiraled uncontrollaby at these vendors, creating little "riot" amongst by standers, ppl waiting in line and those trying to cut it. I suggest getting rid of the silly wristband rule, just good old cash.

Can I get my money back? Oh yes, there's also a line for that. It started few zip codes back and 2 days long.

just wanted to make sure you are well aware that the event was poorly organized and that many, many hopes were dashed today. it could have been a wonderful and delicious day. but instead, i burned more calories that i was able to ingest.
