In Videos: 'I Went to Eat at Alinea Tonight'

As Alinea chef-partner Grant Achatz tweeted last week when this video was posted: "Ppl ask - who eats @ Alinea. Think we only get sophisticated-rich- old. We get avg Joes 2. I swear..." [Video, after the jump.]

I'm heading there in late August and plan to get the tour. The one thing I always hear from people is the phrase: "You have to do it at least once." I'm not really sure how to take that...Some people have raving reviews of the food, others have so-so reviews (can't say I've read a scathing review of it :P), but everyone says that the quality of service and sophistication of the meal makes the splurge worth it.

Adam, try to practice what you want to say before taping...your hesitations are distracting your speech is so slow that it becomes annoying about half way through, which is when most people probably turn it off.

But I love video blogs and I think your premise is great.

OOPS, I mean 'Joe"....

Ummm, you know, this is rather silly all the way around. "I had to wear a jacket which I didn't like" well when you waltz into arguably one of the best restaurants in the country and put down over 200 dollars yea you may have too look nice. I don't know why young people struggle with putting clothes on these days wether its in the office our out on the town, but the bastardizing of business casual in all circumstances is a crying shame. People should take more pride in their clothing and appearance, in the case of Alinea a dress code policy is a matter of a restaurant tradtion that I find extremely refreshing. From a 24 year old who lives in lincoln park. Okay I am listening to the end of this and this is just obnoxious I am sorry please put more learned posts up.

If this guy has friends who work in restaurants, and if HE has worked in restaurants, he's hardly an "avg Joe."

Joe is not the reviewer. The reviewer is Jyo http://www.averagejyo.com/
Michael mentioned it here http://skyfullofbacon.com/blog/?p=206

I think the reviewer is someone who should review restaurants for people that are his intellectual level (definite sarcasm). The head bopping and clicking and hand smacking is a sign of "not ready for prime time".
I am also not interested in the "the items that appear closest to my head" metaphor.

What did brevity ever do to him? After three minutes I gave up. The only way I'd sit through something that rambling was if it was from a relative and even that's pushing it.

i felt the same way about blue hill at stone barns. the foods were simple and good, but not insanely delicious. also, after having the three hour marathon of a meal, which i enjoyed, i dont feel like i ever need to go back. (neither does my wallet.)

"Konichiwa what's up guys s'Joe."

The first sentence of the video--no, the first WORD of the video--tells you everything you need to know about the reviewer. Nothing to see here.
