Happy Earth Day
! To celebrate, Cooking Up a Story offers up Baby Steps to a Green Kitchen, a collection of tips ranging from shopping and food choices to kitchen clean up: "Trying to step more lightly on the earth is a daunting task, but we do believe that small, seemingly insignificant actions can make a major, positive impact."

What are you doing to green your kitchen?

No dishwasher and no styrofoam. And of course, Energy-saving fridge.

Happy Earth Day Alaina and SE!

Today (of ALL the days to do it) I forgot my coffee tumbler and had to hang my head in shame at Starbucks while the staff gave me a lecture.
But normally I use it everyday.

I also recycle,
choose not to buy bottled water,
I stop at the local farmers market (when the season comes),
Propane grill (? eek),
I use microfibre for clean-ups (they're great!),
Clorox® Greenworks for sticky jobs,
Have EE bulbs in my kitchen light,
and don't own a dishwasher.

My green-goals after this earth day 2009:
Try not to forget my tumbler haha
continue drinking tap water,
I plan to water my herbs with collected rainwater,
Cut back on take-out,
Visit local famers market on the weekends as well

GREEN CLEANING TIP: You know how your kitchen sink gets super clogged from all kinds of foods and grease? If you don't have a garberator; I suggest dropping 3 TBSP of baking soda down the drain, follow that with 1/2 cup of plain white vinegar, leave to "sizzle" for 2 mins., then run hot water for a few seconds. Sometimes I repeat this after big events.
A clean and green way to clear it out!

Thanks for everything, Earth!

Thank you so *much* for sharing the tips from the TwoJunes. Any steps taken toward leaving a smaller footprint on this planet, is a step in the right direction!
