April Is National Grilled Cheese Month

20090407-grilledcheese.jpg

It's not always clear who decides these things, but April is National Grilled Cheese Month, so let's get our goo on.

All month, Pithy and Cleaver will feature grilled cheese recipes (they started with the tomato soup classic, except the soup is in the sandwich!). The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board also has some ideas. For the plastic-looking cheese fans, Kraft Foods launched a site where people can submit 50-word testimonials to Kraft Singles for a chance to win freebie coupons. On April 25, there's a Grilled Cheese Invitational happening in Los Angeles (the seventh annual, mind you). New categories this year include: the Missionary Position (standard bread, cheese, and butter with nothing fancy); the Kama Sutra (any kind of bread, butter, and cheese; just go crazy); and the Honey Pot (dessert versions).

Wooohoo! Thanks for mentioning us! We have LOTS of crazyawesome grilled cheese planned on Pithy and Cleaver, so I hope Serious Eaters come visit (and leave us your suggestions for recipes, too!)

Artisanal Bistro is also having a Grilled Cheese recipe contest: http://www.artisanalbistro.com/grilled-cheese-contest.php.

They make a great grilled cheese there with white truffle, honey and comté. Mmmm

Why is Passover during National Grilled Cheese Month? Grrr...I may have to make grilled matzo and cheese.

Luckily Passover isn't a whole month long!

There is a restaurant in Cincinnati (Lavomatic) that makes a different grilled cheese every day of the year. The first time I went it was brie and a cherry compote. I'm hooked.

ooh wow. brie and cherry compote sounds delicious.

Craft Singles are grosstown. EAT REAL CHEESE!!

@thatjamiegirl8 Let's abandon this false dichotomy. Real cheese and Kraft can both have their place, and get along. The yellow stuff has a special place in my heart...and on my hamburger.

@blake royer i heart me some kraft sometimes too.

@ Blake & nithya - no love for my beloved crappy processed Velveeta slices? ;)
