In Videos: Trailer for 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs'

The trailer for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was just released online, and it looks fantastic in the literal sense of the word.

As Erin pointed out in July, the 30-page children's book is a bit thin to write an entire animated feature from, so the plot now has a scientist, Flint Lockwood, who instigates edible storms, turning water into food, in hopes of ending world hunger. When the world needs feeding italian food falls from the skies. Also pancakes.

I loved this book as a kid! It always got me hungrier than I should have been at 9am!

Man, this book was my favorite as a kid. Though the giant pancake is the same, I wouds have liked if they at least made an effort to maintain the style of the book's illustrations. I'm not saying pen-and-ink, but that distinctive style. Now it's just generic computer animation. Looks like just another kid's movie- I'll stick with the book.

I used to love this book! Such good memories.

Fantastic! My daughter just watched the trailer with me, and I swear she almost had tears in her eyes. This is one of our favorite books ever.

I am an elementary-level speech pathologist, and I read this book with my kids all the time. I love it so much. Almost as much as the Chris Van Allsburg books. I am so pumped that they are making it into a movie! Love it!!

oh so excited about this! now if they just made a Pickles to Pittsburgh movie...

Kinda sad it's not set in the town of Chewandswallow.

I just have one thing to say-

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved this book as a kid, I love it as an adult.

And it's coming in 3D no less!

Wheee!!!!!

yippee!!!!!!!!!! loved this book!!!!!!

i love love LOVE this book. (yes, present tense). I just really hope they insert the little part about the stinky gorgonzola, and the snowbanks of cream cheese and jelly sandwiches. That'll justify the funky graphics that make me nostalgic for the soft colors of the book.

Oh my kids are gonna love this...
How cool is the Jell-O scene?!

Oh I loved this book as a child! I suppose they had to flesh out the storyline to make it move length, but it appears the food will get gigantic at the end, so I am happy.

I agree with DanielJ. I was hoping they stick to something at least similar to the original artwork. Now I'm on the fence...I'll probably watch it but maybe not at the theater. Darn. I'm disappointed.

I fear that longtime CwaCoM readers will take offense to the loose translation. Is Grandpa even an important character in the film? And really, a Times Square scene but no mention of Chewandswallow? Maybe it's too soon to say based on that short trailer. That gargantuan pancake landing on the school does look pretty sweet when animated, though.

You've made my day! This was my absolute favorite book as a child. My little sister and I checked it out from the local library every time. It will be great to see as a movie!

Agreed with DanielJ and AuntJone - one of the best things about the book is the illustration. The picture of the pancake on top of the school is my favorite page and the computer animation really doesn't do it justice. I'm disappointed - I love this book!

I also agree with DanielJ. I'm getting really tired of this fake stop-motion/cg trend in movies.

It looks like they've taken something awesome and given it a run to the generic-o-matic.

This was my favorite book growing up! I'm so excited!

Prepare to be served! I'm crying.

This looks awful! What is wrong with the quality of movies these days?
