In Videos: And Finally Tonight, Jesus in a Bucket of Spumoni

20090316-cheesus.jpg

When Alaina sent me a link to this video, I was like, "Another Jesus and Mary in food story? Big deal."

But it's actually a compilation of local newscasts reporting Jesus and Mary as seen in:

  • Cheetos
  • Grilled cheese sandwiches
  • Potato chips
  • Sink stains
  • Ice machines
  • Cinnamon bun stains
  • Spoons

And that's just the food-related items.

These sightings are so frequent—and dubious—now that even the newscasters look bored when reporting the stories. [The video, after the jump.]

Seeing Faces in Food

Choice quotes:

"And finally tonight, a man in Kentucky says he's got a spoonful of Jesus."

"Is it a snack or a holy symbol?"

"A miracle or a meal?"

"Did a cinnamon bun leave behind a message from above?"

"Our ice machine has been broken for a long time. And all of a sudden I go into the ice machine, and there's new ice. So I guess it's just the miracle of Jesus."

"His name shall be Cheesus."

Newscaster, in reference to Jesus in a bucket of spumoni: "Sweet Jesus!"

Believe it or not, I bought a Cuban sandwich yesterday that had an image of Adam Kuban on it. I'm saved!

Too bad, though, that my name is not pronounced KYOO-bin. It's COO-bahn.

I opened a box of Cheez-its of Nazareth!

Seriously though, the fact that our "news outlets" devote even one nanosecond to this stuff shows what infortainment fluff they are. Not that it's news.

That spoon one actually look more like Che to me than Jesus.

Jesus was black. Or at least dark-skinned.
