NBC Cancels 'The Chopping Block'

According to the television industry blog The Live Feed, The Chopping Block, Marco Pierre White's first stateside attempt at television stardom, has been canceled. This isn't surprising. As we noted after its premiere, The Chopping Block simply wasn't very good television. Even star turns by Corby Kummer and Jeffrey Steingarten couldn't redeem what was in the end an unnecessary, unoriginal attempt to capitalize on the success of Top Chef and Hell's Kitchen. It never made sense to me for NBC to make this show; they already have the best cooking competition show out there in Top Chef (Bravo is part of NBC)... I guess they got greedy.

It did seem like a poorly timed attempt at a copy of Chopped but...I was getting into it!

I got to know MPW thru this show... what a shame we will not be seeing more of him. He looks like a mad man, but I loved his interventions. But mad men are many times geniuses...

I am very disappointed that they are canceling this, I have been a huge fan of Marco Pierre White's for years now, and I was really excited to see that they were going to give him his own show here in America.

Mr. Pointy and I are quite ticked about losing MPW! He really deserves a zen-like show of his own. The koans of Marco Pierre White....

Enough of these competitions anyway!
