Locavore 1.0: Find Local, in Season Food on Your iPhone

20090319locavoreapp.png

Just in time for spring, Locavore is a new iPhone application that uses built in GPS and location awareness to show you real-time information about the nearest farmers' markets, what's in season locally, and what's coming in season soon. What other food-related iPhone apps do you use regularly? [via Matt Haughey]

I use Urban Spoon and Pick&Choose. I'll have to add Locavore on now! Love my iphone!

Wow, this is pretty awesome. I have more and more reasons to make the switch... Can't believe I still don't have one >:o|

Love it! This should make shopping so much easier.

I love the Seafood Guide app that tells you which fish and other seafood are harvested sustainably, and which aren't.

Um, this is AWESOME! Even though I was in love with all the millions of awesome iPhone apps I knew about before this one, NOW i want an iphone.

I reviewed this the day it came out. It's pretty cool.

Urbanspoon is another one of my favorites and I used the Seafood Guide tonight when I was going out for sushi.

I decided to make this the application I bought (versus just downloading the free ones). Unfortunately, this first version isn't working for me -- it crashes before it finds my location.

FYI...the fee for the application is $2.99

I just downloaded the recipemark app. You can bookmark recipes you find online and it uploads them to your iphone - seems pretty cool so far!

Oh, but recipemark doesn't work with every website, just tried to add the NYTimes recipe for fish tacos and was thwarted. Epicurious, AllRecipes, and FoodTV are the supported sites.

Oh yeah, I recognize Seattle Market names when I see them. I wonder if this is app was created in Seattle. Anyways, UD Farmers Market forever! That is all.

Whoa, trippy! I just noticed the other screenshot is fruit by state in Hawaii. I'm from Seattle and I go to school in Hawaii! *shifty eyes* What is going on here?

It was indeed created in Seattle, by Buster McLeod! He has a site here where he talks about Locavore, along with lots of other things: http://enjoymentland.com/locavore/.

I love the UrbanSpoon App, but the allRecipes one is my favorite. There's a cool little spinner that lets you choose what ingredients you want and how quickly you want your food made.

I'm a big fan of the nationwide dining guide app LocalEats. Check it out at www.WhereTheLocalsEat.com. Well worth the 99 cent download!

I like Calorie Tracker, Tip Calculator and LocalEats.
