Celebrate Pi Day with Pie

Tomorrow is a really big day for math dorks and pie appreciators alike. Pi Day comes but once a year, celebrating over one trillion digits past the decimal point and people who just need another excuse to eat butter.

Last year, Ed rounded up some of the best pie sources in America, and as to be expected, the Serious Eaters chirped up with other favorites.

Note: Pi Day on March 14 should not be confused with the American Pie Council's Pie Day on January 23. Both involve happy tummies.

"PIE: A preparation consisting of a pastry crust that serves as a kind of
package or dish for a sweet or savory filling. Most restaurants
sell pie only by the slice; to find out how much it would cost to
buy an entire pie, multiply the number of slices by the value of pie,
which is currently about $3.14159265358979323."

We celebrated Pi day at my school today. The kids all made shirts like QT - Pi and we had pizza pie in every math class. Last year we did real "pie" and it was too messy so we stuck with pizza this year.

I don't think we learned about Pi back in my day because I had no clue what they were talking about!

Geeky admission--I can recite pi to the 60th power.

In Nebraska, I can recite pi to one digit. That's all you need there...

Of course, those not in america have to wait until July 7th. (22/7) for their 'pi approximation' day. I don't know what they would eat though.

I can do about 25 digits..... last year I could do more but I am getting old and don't remember any more

Last year I made 12 pies for pi day, several of which I at least attempted to write the symbol pi with limited success.... http://whyamisoboring.blogspot.com/2008/03/pie-day.html

This year was a bit smaller... at least so far http://whyamisoboring.blogspot.com/2009/03/pie-day-2009.html I tried to draw pi with bacon but it didn't work all that well. but at least they liked they pies!

Geeka, you eat things that are close to but not quite pie!!!! http://whyamisoboring.blogspot.com/2008/07/pi-approximation-day.html

Geeka, don't you mean July 22?
