Blogwatch: Homemade Corn Dogs

20090304corndogs.jpg

Corn dogs are a guilty pleasure of mine, but whenever I buy them, the ratio of corn to dog is grievously in favor of corn. Solution? Make your own.

Katie, of Chaos in the Kitchen, started a new feature on her blog, Blogging the Recession, in which she keeps track of the cost breakdown of her meals. Her homemade corn dogs are cheap, freezable, and probably the "healthiest" corn dogs you'll ever eat.

Haha, my roommates and I were just talking about doing this the other day after our deep fried Oreos were a success. Of all the things we've made in the deep fryer, though, the cheese sticks were the best--and also the only thing we've made multiple times.

I never did like the corn crust on corn dogs, so making my own sounds intriguing.

@peterepeat42 - how do you make cheese sticks?!

Oh hey, you're featuring Katie!! I love Katie! :D

i think that ketchup/mustard cup is channelling my happiness about these corndogs. :)

Great post. I've got some all-beef dogs from a little local butcher that would do this recipe proud.

Has anyone tried dusting the dogs with a little cornstarch (a la Alton Brown) to get the batter to stick better?
