In Videos: Thai Street Vendor's Balletic Coffee Mixin' Tricks

20090209-thaicoffee.jpg

This Thai street vendor mixes coffee in a rather theatrical manner, first pouring in the condensed milk and then mixing in coffee by pouring it from one pitcher to another—all while performing a series of pirouettes. Not sure how much he’s spilling, but I’d assume not much.

Ah. This guy's at the JJ (Chatuchak) Market off of the Mo Chit subway stop in Bangkok...

There is only one way to practice that... and that means spilling a LOT

Coffee is made this way in South India as well, but instead of condensed milk, it's hot frothed milk, tossed back and forth between two stainless steel tumblers, a process which mixes and cools. I never saw any kaapi-wallah lose a drop, it's fun to watch, and so good to drink!

Pouring the coffee between two vessels is part of the process of making it; it mixes and froths the coffee. The higher you can manage the pour without spilling, the greater your prestige as a coffee maker. Clearly, this fellow is a master of the art.

wow is he on skates or something? how does he move like that?
this is very cool.

@Lady Marmalade yes it brings back memories or the kashi-wallas and tea-wallas.
