This Week's Tasty 10
According to our handy site-metering utility, the top 10 most delicious items across the Serious Eats family of sites this week were ...

1. Legendary NYC Vegetable Peeler Salesman Joe Ades, 75
I'm really happy to see that this was the most-trafficked post for the week. Joe Ades' inimitable vegetable-peeler sales pitch was a sight to behold. He died last Sunday. He will be missed. [from Serious Eats New York]
2. Dunkin' Donuts Waffle Breakfast Sandwich vs. McD's McGriddle
You asked, we ate. I grabbed one of Dunkin' Donuts' new Waffle Breakfast Sandwiches and then a McDonald's McGriddle joint—DD's obvious inspiration—for comparison.
3. Le Creuset: Is It Worth It?
"So over in the food section, there's a discussion of the six most important tools in your kitchen. Again and again, 'Le Creuset Dutch oven' comes up. Like many cooks, I covet just such a pot, but I'm stymied by the high cost. For those of you who own Le Creuset products, have you found them to be worth the money? Is there a cheaper brand that makes Dutch ovens of similar quality?" [from Talk]
4. The Original McDonald's in San Bernardino, California
"During my recent road trip to Phoenix to visit my sis (and review a burger) I convinced my passengers to let me take a slight detour through San Bernardino, California, to check out the site of the original McDonald's. You know the one. It's where Ray Kroc, enthralled by the McDonald brothers' success, decided to leave his multimixer milkshake machine sales career behind and conquer the world with hamburgers. " [from A Hamburger Today]
5. Served: No Sick Days in the Restaurant Biz
"I was coughing, sneezing, sweating. I was a hot mess. My first thought: Who can work for me?"
6. In Videos: The Unofficial Trader Joe's Commercial
"Since Trader Joe's won't do commercial advertising, some dude with a Palm Treo did it for them. Though he broke the in-house "No Photography" policy, snapping shots of Aloe Chunk Juice and a disgruntled manager, it's a heartwarming, unauthorized look at favorite Trader Joeisms. Ah, there's just nothing like buying four apples from a plastic box. The video, after the jump."
7. Worst Food You Ate at a Party?
"Although I enjoy cooking, I also enjoy it when someone else cooks or throws a party and then invites me to their house. Unfortunately, frequenting parties can result in the sampling of some pretty awful fare.... Am I expecting too much? Am I snobbish to expect something better than a jar of salsa dumped over a block of cream cheese?" [from Talk]
8. Mixed Review: Betty Crocker's Oatmeal Caramel Bars
"This week I learned that boxed cookie mixes are good for more than just baking cookies. I've had a package of Betty Crocker oatmeal chocolate chip cookie mix ($2.39) in my pantry for ages, but I've never been inspired to make them.... A few days ago, however, I noticed a little recipe tucked away on the back of the package for oatmeal-caramel bars. I was intrigued."
9. Stephanie Izard on Twitter, 'Top Chef,' and Her New Chicago Restaurant
"We caught up with Stephanie Izard, last season's Top Chef winner. She's a busy woman, opening her new Chicago restaurant, The Drunken Goat, this fall, doing some spokeswoman work for Quaker Oats, and launching a podcast next week. We thought it was only appropriate to have goat with her. So over a plate of slow-roasted goat in Manhattan, we got to the bottom of this curiously named restaurant of hers, among other things."
10. I Don't Have a ___ in My Kitchen and I Don't Want One
"The other day, my FIL was marveling over some kitchen gadget I was using, and he asked me if there was anything I didn't have. Well, of course. But when he put me on the spot, I couldn't think of anything, because the things I don't have are things that I don't particularly want. So nothing big came to mind.... So what kitchen things do other people have that you don't have and you don't want." [from Talk]

i LOVE Le Creuset dutch oven, but if you're looking for a decent cast iron and can't afford the real deal, get a cast iron from IKEA. They're not bad at all and mine hasn't chipped once so far!
