New 'Cupcake Wars' Show from Food Network?

The blog TV Tango thinks it has found evidence of an upcoming cupcake-themed show from the Food Network:

About 10 days ago, Food Network filed a trademark application to protect 'Cupcake Wars' for "a continuing program about food and cooking." I can't find any other details about the show and my requests to Food Network for more information went unanswered. Wouldn't it be awesome if Food Network and The Post teamed up to do a "Cupcake War" series with each episode focusing on a different region? Manhattan one week, Chicago the next, then LA, and Orange County and on and on.

Of course, just filing a trademark application doesn't guarantee that the Food Network will create or air the show, but it's some good intel on TV Tango's part.

In Other Cupcake News: Obama and Lincoln Mosaic

Zilly Rosen assembled an Obama-Lincoln cupcake mosaic on Friday at the Smithsonian. Cakewrecks was taking progress snaps from the streaming webcam the museum set up to webcast the assembly of more than 5,000 cupcakes. Thanks to everyone who sent us links to Cakewrecks and other coverage, like this story on NPR, which prompted HeartofGlass to remark, "Sure, Seurat invented pointillism with 'Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte'—but how did that taste?"

I thought cupcakes were over.

they could have that on right after "Slider Showdown", and "Cheese Stick Challange"...or "insert name of other overdone food items"

I couldn't think of a more boring theme for a show.

Ditto

I'm actually sick of the overabundance of cake and sugar competitions too. If you must air them, put them on at midnight.

How about doing some real cooking shows? Featured special chef each week, regional cooking, introductions to foreign foods and recipes, vegetarian and vegan recipes/conversions? Canning/preserving? Kitchen tips and tricks?

I loathe every one of those shows as well. I'm tired of seeing commercials for "Insert theme here" cake inspired challenge. With the same shots of terror and frustration of someone MOVING a cake.

In Example:
I DON'T care about Mylie Cyrus.
I DON'T care about her turning 16.
I DON'T care about fondant. (remember when cakes had icing...yeah ICING.)
I DON'T care about seeing someones "Artistic, cake-inspired" interpretation of her birthday.
I DON'T care to see them move them 10 feet from the prep table to the judging table.
I DON'T care to see someones cake fall, crack, melt, slide, be thrown, whatever the case may be.
I DON'T care about someone crying over a harsh judgment of their cake. (Get over yourself, and your "Art.")

I don't mind being the cold-blooded one here. Anyone else feel the same way?

Portland (Oregon) has already ridden the cupcake wave, and the winner seems to be a place called Saint Cupcake, a confection of a shop with a soft spot for authentic flavorings in fanciful combinations. A friend even ordered several dozen mini-cupcakes for her 50th birthday, the better for guests to sample several flavors without feeling piggy. Fabulous!
