In Videos: Nannerpus, Denny's Super Bowl Commercial

20090212-nannerpus.jpg

"It's Nannerpus!!!" It's...what? If I had watched the Super Bowl then I would've seen this Denny's commercial at the appropriate time, like before they gave away their advertised free Grand Slam breakfasts on February 3. But better late than never, as it took me about two seconds to fall in love with the eight-legged, mustachioed, pancake-loving banana. And even if the commercial is outdated, Nannerpus lives on at nannerpus.com, Twitter, and Deviant Art. Watch the video after the jump.

Awww, the poor guy knocks his own eye out!

Every morning, I put the TV on while I get ready and really just vaguely listen to it, but when I saw this the other day, I stopped and watched. The WTF? element sucked me right in and now I love it (and sing the song all the time).

Nannerpuss vs. bananaphone...FIGHT!

@sarahdlr: I love that part. Heh.

@emgroff: I CAN'T GET THE SONG OUT OF MY HEAD.

@onalark: Nannerpus all the way. :)

ah, to have been a fly on the wall at the advertising brainstorming session where this idea was born.

The eye! The eyeeeee!

also, when we watched this after the superbowl, we actually rewound our DVR like two times to try and figure out where his knocked-off eye went. it's down there by his peel-tentacle on the left. :D

Oh they still play it without the free breakfast part, ive been enjoying it immensly.

I love nannerpuss! I actually tweeted about him when the ad first aired and he started following me...which was creepy. I appreciate his helpful breakfast tips, though!

Now I kind of wish I'd watched the Superbowl. I can't stop laughing...

My son and I were screaming when it first aired on the superbowl commercial. We love random commercials like this (and I think he is the only boy in his high school with "bananaphone" on his ipod).

We played it for my husband and he just didnt' get it. When we first heard it, we thought it said nanner-butt, but then figured out that it must be "puss" after all.
