'Coca-Cola Classic' Changing Name Back to 'Coca-Cola'
Coca-Cola has announced that it's dropping the "Classic" label from its name in the U.S. The extra bit was added to the original formula's packaging in 1985, when the company introduced the poorly received "New Coke" line. Says Ad Age:
But the word has gradually outlived its usefulness as the company has sought an increasingly global approach. The popular "Coke side of life" and new "Open happiness" campaigns have not used the word. "Classic" would have been used only in advertising specific to North America, said Scott Williamson, a Coca-Cola spokesman.
Of course, we wouldn't mind if they went really old school and brought back the formula that uses cane sugar instead of HFCS as a sweetener.

That's exactly what I thought when I read your title, Adam. I could care less what they call Coke, but I wish somebody would start the trend to get rid of that evil HFCS.

How about going all the way back and tossing a couple rails of cocaine in each bottle while they're at it?

The Coke at Costco is the Mexican variety that uses sugar. Sometime I go just for that. And of course walk out about $200 lighter.

I'm with DanielJ. Bring back the real deal!
I'm not much of a soda drinker. I really onluy drink Coke with my booze. I'll drink Cheerwine from time to time, but I stick mainly with water and unsweet teas.
I can't stand Pepsi, but the funny thing is, I am being considered for an interview at a local PBG as I type this. I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Maybe a little THC instead of HFCS. Mellow.

Mexi-coke is muy delicioso. Much smoother and not as cloying.
I will echo the virtues of mixing coca-cola with Alcohol. Rum and Pepsi? Ew.

I vote that DanielJ be appointed the new Director of Product Development at Coke!

We buy the mexican coke. I go get a case every few weeks at 26.00 per case. Makes me laugh when people complain they have to pay 5.99 for a case. I don't want any $%@& HFCS so I will keep paying. If Coca Cola had any brains they would offer the Coke with sugar because they offer it with lime and lemon so why not sugar.

Yeah... if I indulge in a Coke - maybe once a month - I totally go for Mexican Coke. Now that I live in Houston, I can get it anywhere. I really do love it and really do notice a biiiig difference.

I was skeptical about the Mexican Coke being all that different from the regular HFCS Coke, but yeah, it is better. For me, it's not the sweetness so much as a better aftertaste and no weird coaty feeling on my tongue afterwards.

I'm in Houston, too. My fave Mexican place serves "the good Mexican Coke"...I just have to be careful who I say that to! ;) Btw, I totally agree about the coated-tongue feeling from the HFCS --- Gross, totally gross!

It's amazing how any discussion of Coca Cola immediately turns to the ongoing HFCS version versus cane sugar version debate.
And it's no "debate" - - in the thousands of comments you can find on-line about this, not one of them says "I prefer the HFCS" version.
