Our Own Robyn Lee on 'No Reservations'

Well, it's not like Serious Eats' Robyn Lee was a talking head on No Reservations, but you do see the back of her head on the show. FoSE Kathryn Yu captured the moment. There's Robyn in the background having lunch at Momofuku Ssam Bar.

Update: Highmtn pointed out this photo in Robyn's Flickr stream. Thanks!

Strangely appropriate, as the episode had to do with food porn, which Robyn excels at.

Bourdain talks about food porn in this blog post and in this video with David Chang, where Bourdain says:

It's anti-food in a sense. This is the thing with the food nerds—they're your most loyal followers. They spread the gospel, for sure, but ironically, in their fervor, they become ... like butterfly collectors. Instead of just appreciating the thing, it's all about acquiring it and putting it in the book.

Chang banned photography in one of his restaurants, Momofuku Ko, in June of last year.

If only the producers knew they were in the presence of food porn greatness, they could have gotten the perspective of a so-called food nerd.

ADAAAAMMM

[shakes fist]

;)

@highmtn: Thanks for that!
@Roboppy: You love it!

Hehe, that is SO awesome :)

That is awesome!

The program however? I actually turned it off half-way through and walked away. It really didn't do anything for me.

*sigh* butterfly collectors?

more and more, i can't wait for the old generation to just die off so the myspace generation can grow up and rule the world. I mean seriously. I thought Bourdain displayed some growth during his interview where he shat on Alice Waters. This is what he said about Buffalo:

"I'm just more tolerant and open-minded about different cultures. Buffalo is a different culture. I look at Buffalo and Buffalonians as a different culture now. Ten years ago, I would have looked at them as those poor guys who live upstate, and I'm lucky enough to live in Manhattan. That's the way I would have seen it 10 years ago. Now I see it as a very distinct personality, a very distinct culture with its own architecture, its own kinda feel"

So now there's a sense of quantifying how other people enjoy food? That somehow a snapshot of my meal deems me unappreciative?

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what i'm trying to say is that if people in Buffalo have their own culture then maybe people who are food porn nerds have their own culture. And maybe, just maybe, we appreciate our food just as much as people who don't take pictures.

I know it's a stretch to believe that but hey.. just maybe.

You could also be a happy eater who doesn't give a @#$% what Bourdain says. I mean, I'm a fan. The guy's a good writer and a fascinating personality. But I'm not going to let some air-dried elderly rock-n-roller dictate my food choices. Why should I?

YESSSS thank goodness he said good things about Buffalo. I love my city but I was a little worried about what he was seeing and where he was eating and his reaction (not that I should care but we are the butt of so many jokes, we don't need anymore). Didn't get a chance to catch him in the action, though I tried. They filmed here about 3-4 weeks ago... Anyways, haven't seen the "Food Porn" program yet but yeah I agree he should have spoken with someone from Serious Eats!

I would kill for a chance to be on his show, even if the only thing you could see is the back of my head. :)

yes i agree with adam, if only tony knew he was in the presence of greatness. robyn is the biggest and best food pornographer! ;)
