In Videos: Tortoise Tries to Eat a Tomato

20090129-votd-tortoise.jpg

This tortoise just wants a little cherry tomato love! Why must its life be so hard? Because the spherical tomato refuses to stay put. But don't worry; the tortoise eventually indulges in a tomato feast thanks to its owner who holds the tomato in place.

Since the video is soundless, I think someone needs to remix it so that every time the tortoise's mouth pokes the tomato further away, it plays the sound effect of an explosion. There's also the Benny Hill-ified version for some musical accompaniment. Watch the video after the jump.

Determined little fella. Reminds me of trying to get the peas on my fork.

Also reminds me of my favorite photo ever on SE - the turtle and the strawberry (link above). If I didn't have my granddaughter's photo as my wallpaper, that one would be it.

Cute video!

i really wanna see the guinea pigs fighting over the cucumber, but the link doesnt work!

Long time lurker, first time poster. That adorable little creature is a Russian Tortoise, I believe. Being an owner of one myself, I can vouch for both their cuteness and sheer doggedness towards eating.

aawwww adoradle

@redzerostar: Oops, the link is correct now! You have to watch it.

@Carnal: I'm glad the cute tortoise compelled you to delurk. ;)

@ bisbee: That's exactly what I was going to say; you beat me to it!

Definitely a Russian tortoise. I have one, too! They're awesome. Mine does the whole stomping on his food routine. He is savage when it comes to his veggies!
