Meet Kelly Choi, Host of 'Top Chef Masters'

20090115-choi.jpgTime Out New York is reporting that Kelly Choi will host Bravo's new Top Chef Masters show. Choi, a former Ford model, is the host of local NYC food show Eat Out New York and of Secrets of New York. Get an idea of what she likes to eat in this interview with Grub Street, check out her Wikipedia page, or watch her in action in these video clips from her show.

According to Eater, Top Chef Masters "unites some of the brightest stars in the world of food, award-winning, widely-renowned Chefs who will compete against each other in a series of weekly challenges."

She's such a goofball, I generally hate shows where you watch someone eat, but I am mesmerized by her prowess. And she's totally hawt.

@simon--you're such a dawg ; )

I wonder if the chefs will change weekly or if it will be Top Chef style and have the chefs all living at the same residence. Would Bourdain be a possible cheftestant? Who will the judges be besides our "hawt" hostess?

Ugh this girl annoys me so much. I attempted to watch her shows on NYCTV, because I'm really interested in the subject matter (NY history, etc.) but I just can't get past her dumb pleather trench coat, constany use of the word "Uhh..", and general inability to host a show. It's like they chose the hot girl to host the high school news show even though she's talentless.

@DanielJ: I completely agree. If she's hosting, I don't know if I'll be able to watch the show.

that's not pleather it's vinyl - although it's annoying how they adopt the s&m look to spice up an otherwise dull network & show. & she has a hot figure but the face, not so much.

I think I am going to hurl.

I am extraordinarily tired of TV producers' need to have something "cute" in front of me all the time.

The name of the show makes me dream though. I want to see the Top Chef judges go at it. Colicchio, that means you!

i third the comments by danielj and harlan. she always annoyed me on public access.

I'm with everyone on this. I find her narcissistic and unbearable.

I admit I would kill for her legs and abs but other than "yummy" I've never heard her say anything remotely insightful about the food she is eating. I think the whole 'appeal' of her is that she is incredibly thin, and is seen taking one or two bites out of incredibly decadent food on camera.

I'm glad people agree with me. This girl has no right being on television at all, let alone a food show. How about an actual expert? How about that Ed Levine guy?

I've seen this girl irl filming a segment, she is so skinny and tall. But her makeup was unnecessarily set on hooker.

(damn, you guys are harsh.)

if my memory serves me correctly, ed used to have a tv show. i forget the name of the show but it wasn't bad. I'd love to see serious eats become a tv show of some sort.

(kelly: I'll congratulate you and gladly offer to share a few pies at Co. "Call me."

kelly choi is completely void of valuable culinary comments. all she says is "yummy" when she actually is forced to eat something. her interviews are awkward, she makes chefs uncomfortable and this show will suck because of her.

I concur, she makes me cringe and offers nothing of substance

im glad im not the only that dislikes her so much. i find that even tho she always tastes things, she takes these teeny lil bites like she's watchin her figure. that makes me hurl. hello...if ur gonna host a food show, at least be sorta INTO food!!
*ugH* the new show sounds great, but i dont think i can watch it if she's hosting. =(

you guys are all so childish and insecure...it's about the chefs and the FOOD anyway!
give da girl a chance too

To all the people saying this show will suck because of her... does regular Top Chef suck because of Padma? Because I find her absolutely annoying and feel like she adds nothing to the show but she doesn't stop me from watching TC.

I agree completely with Allen B re: Padma. Unfortunately, Kelly Choi appears to be an even more annoying version of the model-host-critic. And HeartofGlass has highlighted another peeve: anyone who uses the word "yummy" when speaking to anyone over the age of five, let alone a TV audience.

Well, just to chime in here, I have to say that I simply love Kelly Choi. I am not Korean, but I think it's great to have more nationally diverse personalities in the entertainment field. And at least she's out there trying. That's a lot more than I can say for a lot of other people. Way to go Kelly !

personally, I gotta vote yes for diversity on tv

My biggest pet peeve is that Kelly Choi always seems to have a slightly disgusted look on her face when she eats or even talks about the foods. Her mouth turns down and she wrinkles her upper lip and nose. It's hard to describe, but make a disgusted face, look in the mirror, and think of Kelly Choi.

Kelly Choi looks like a grotesque gargoyle and sounds like a fishwife. Padma is beautiful and elegant. There is no comparison.

Hahaha, this proves that people will never accept Asian Americans anywhere. You can be beautiful, or intelligent, or talented and be the most amazing person in the world but if you're Asian.... You get an instant REJECTION stamped on your forehead by insecure, narrow minded, shallow, over assuming, bigoted, people. But nah, if you're white, and blonde and have fake boobs people will accept you EVERYWHERE even IF you're an absolute airhead and possess the IQ of a fruit fly. MAN! You've gotta love how racist the entertainment is huh?! We have made SO much progress in the equality and equal treatment section!!

I can't wait for season 2 of TCM. Choi is back so that's the reason that I will return as well... I loved her on NYC TV's Eat Out and even more on "Secrets of NY" - interesting fact. I read on wikipedia that originally choi was brought to NYC TV by network G.M. Arick Wierson to work on 'Secrets' - and the Food journalism part only came later... if you have seen Secrets, its a good show but a 180* from Eat Out or much less TCM. Its dark and is sort of sci-fi-ish...I guess Choi is more versatile than we'd think! Maybe this season they will do seomthing taht will challenge Choi a bit more. She is certainly up to it!!
