Cook the Book: 'The Great Wings Book'

20090119wings_cover.jpgMmmmm, wings. Crispy wings, sticky wings, barbecue wings—you'll find them all in Hugh Carpenter and Teri Sandison's epic wing compendium, The Great Wings Book, with recipes that run the gamut from traditional to Asian-inspired to just plain zany (I'm talking to you, PB&J wings.) Zaniness aside, you'll also find a solid introductory chapter with clear, illustrated instructions for prepping, stuffing and lollipopping those tasty wings--whether you plan to braise them in spicy coconut milk or baste them with hoisin sauce on your tailgate grill.

Just in time for the Super Bowl, we're bringing you a whole week of wings. Come back for classics like Buffalo wings and best-ever American wings, and expand your repertoire with pomegranate-glazed BBQ wings and Chinese-style "red-cooked" braised wings. Michele Humes

Chips and salsa are must haves.

Michael Symon's sriracha wings

Buffalo Chicken Cheese Dip!! Yummmmmo!

Guacamole and chips

I love a good cheeseball!

Gotta go with the chips and salsa.

Guacamole. Must Eat. At All Times.

Well, wings of course. Chips and salsa/guacamole take a very close second.

I love hot artichoke dip with sourdough cubes for dipping. It's sort of hackneyed... an "oldy but goody", but I try to mix it up a bit and never make it quite the same way twice... I play with different cheeses, mixing in spinach, crab, bacon or spicy sausage... sometimes pre-roasting the garlic, varying the type and level of heat with jalapenos, hot sauces etc...

any kind of "chips & dip" - 7 layer mexican dip, Utz and Sour Cream Ranch Dip, JM's famous Shimp Dip with Tortilla Chips, Hot Crab & Artichoke....endless list!

My sister makes a mean Reuben Dip...with party pumpernickle slices.

Pineapple salsa

Chips and salsa, classic for a reason.

Nachos! I love nachos!!!!!!

guacamole, chips and homebrewed russian imperial stout

onion dip, bean dip, chips.... mmmmm.....

Nachos never miss!

Fritos and jalapeno cheese dip.

My boyfriend requires beer...does that count? Anything deep fried is good.

But seriously, my boyfriend is Thai so everytime there is a big sporting event on, he is makes Pad Thai. Mmmm, it makes my day.

And let me add that these folks know their way around a kitchen. I've been cooking out of their books for ....well, let's just say years, okay? Yummeeee stuff.

guac and chips. hands down. z

hamburger sliders! with onions and bacon!

beer... does that count? Beer.

Cheddar cheese/horseradish dip with chips, veggies and pretzels.

Has to be hot wings and beer without question!

Chips and onion dip!

buffalo wings or nacho platter.. yummm

Guac and chips and beer.

a little different: fried wontons...my own, of course! And wings...

Chips and salsa!

While I love chicken wings, I'm going to have to go with pigs in a blanket. Last year for the superbowl I had a pigs 3 ways party: tempura, traditional, and corn dog, each with its own dipping sauce. It was amazing.

the standard WNY favorite...pizza & wings!

Beer and anything made with habanero or habanero variants.

Bacon-wrapped jumbo shrimp with homemade cocktail sauce.

Also, homemade guacamole.

Potato skins loaded with cheese, bacon and sour cream.

Onion Rings

Mango habanero dip with tortilla chips and hot wing dip!

Actually, my 'must have' game day snack is my homemade teriyaki wings.

I have to agree with the buffalo chicken dip....it's amazing!

Definitely "pepperoni bread": pizza dough rolled thin, layered with pepperoni and a mixture of mozz & cheddar - rolled up jelly-role style. Amazing.

Fritos & Chili

I must have Onion Dip and potato chips by the pound.

Super Hot Wings, Beer and Guac....

Good ole fashioned chips and salsa. The spicier the salsa the better.

BarBCue wings and make your own taco bar.

Tortilla chips and a myriad of things into which to dip them-- onion dip, bean dip, guacamole, salsa over cream cheese, cheese sauce, etc. etc.

Must be Nachos. With all sorts of dips and fix'ins.

I definitely cannot live without nachos!

At our house, it is wings, because DH never met a chicken wing he did not like. Served with bleu cheese dressing and celery, because I am from Buffalo and that is the way we do it!

Bratwurst and onions are my favorite game day snack.

Zapp's potato chips - either the Creole Tomato and Tabasco or the Sour Cream and Creole Onion...or better...both.

Chicken wings of course.

I would have to say the obvious - true buffalo-style hot wings. Incidentally, these can also be my least favorite, if they aren't right. There is nothing worse than soggy or dry wings. They've got to be crispy and juicy at the same time, and HOT.

I know I'm picky, but I can't get enough of good wings, and bad ones just happen to be a pet peeve of mine. It's just not that hard to cook them right!

Guacamole!!

I like good old Knorr's spinach dip served with Amy's pita chips.

Well wings of course. But you gotta have chips and dip!

Beer!

if that does not qualify as a snack, 7-layer mexican dip and tortilla chips

Chips and salsa plus wing (lots of them) is the staple at my house for football games.

Buffalo Chicken Wing Dip!! GO STEELERS!!!

I always make homemade cornbread with a side of honey butter for the game. I like really hot spicy wings too. Can't wait for the superbowl this year.

Chips and french onion dip is one of my serious vices.

brats, cooked in beer, kraut, mustard

guacamole and tortilla chips

Tortilla chips and a sour cream/sriracha dip i make. sour cream, chives, and sriracha

Seriously can't do without... wings. So many good wing choices here in the south, plus all the homemade kinds. But wings aside, probably nachos. Pile on the cheese, chili, jalapenos, more cheese, more cheese, more cheese, sour cream, and pico and I'm in heaven.

Buffalo wings, please! Don't forget the celery and blue cheese.

If not wings - a must have is JD's Crab & Artichoke Dip or Millers' Shirmp Dip with Ruffles!

Have to have homemade pizza and spicy wings! Thanks!

I've never thought of chicken wings as a "snack" food - but they are by far one of my favourite junk food dinners out there.

Beyond that - oh, let's say cheese sticks. Y'know the kind - the ones invented by the devious man that said, "How can I make cheese worse for a person? Oh I know - dredge it in batter and then deep fry it! Yeah, that'll do it..."

Hot Wings :) thanks for the giveaway.

aside from the obvious wings and chips and dip( 7 layer). I would say fajitas... maybe its a Texas thing but in my opinion there is nothing better than fresh steak and chicken fajitas to accompany the fried goodness of hot wings.

Seven layer dip fo sho!

I love all chips and dips, but I would have to say Fritos and bean dip is my number on choice!

Frito Scoops and Rotel Dip... no doubt about it.

Gotta have my nachos! Thanks!

I'm with Johnhutch. I like crispy fried "naked" wings with a sauce made with only Texas Pete and Butter. Franks works as well, but Texas Pete has a better flavor.

My amin favorite, is a fried beef wanton that I make. Just ground beef with onion soup mix added for flavor, wrapped in wanton skins, fried perfectly. Dip in your favorite oriental sauce, or hot mustard, and your good to go. They fly off the table faster than anything else every single time.

chips and guac! Yum!

Seriously, I could make a list of everything that I love to eat and everything on that list would be too fattening, to high in cholesterol, to spicy, and so on. It is easy, like the folks who only eat orange food, etc, if I like it and want to eat it, it is absolutely forbidden, food-wise. I am not ill or anything, but, I have been slowly and steadily gaining weight for the past several years and I can see where the path is leading, so I am on the "Lupinea Diet", again, if I like it or if it sounds good to me, you cannot eat it, it is absolutely forbidden. I don't think I will become rich with my new "Lupinea Diet", don't you agree with me? Lupinea@aol.com

One of my favorite things for the superbowl is a taco dip from the Jewel store deli. It is kindof pricey, but the dip is so good and I wouldn't be able to make it for less than that at home. THanks for the giveaway!
