Kellogg's Saves Mother's Cookies

Not many other news breakthroughs would make me this happy. Kellogg's isn't letting Mother's Cookies fall by the wayside. Mother's Cookies—which has a huge West Coast fanbase due to its Oakland roots—filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October, but this week, Kellogg's announced it would acquire trademarks and recipes to the famous Circus Animal cookies, as well as the sandwich cookies and wire-cut cookies.

Will the pink-frosted lions and elephants get along with the Keebler Elf and Snap, Crackle, and Pop trio? This sounds like the beginning of a wonderful new snack family.

Thank goodness! I love those little frosted animals.

I don't know what I would do if I could never have circus cookies again. I've already lost Candied Raisens!

Sorry Correction *candy raisens* my fingers type faster than my brain sometimes.

This makes my week. These cheerful, colorful little circus animals brought back from the brink of extinction - it's one small light in this gray uncertain world. Thank you, Kelloggs!

I grew up in CA as a little girl and ate these til I swear i'd bleed bright pink and sprinkles. This brand is fabulous!! Love these - glad Kelloggs is going to take them over.

Great! Now I can stop hoarding them.

This made my day! Thanks Kellogg's!

A little dark spot in my heart just went bright again. Bring on the frosted animal cookies! Is there a target date for the new release?

Does this include the oatmeal cookies? I saved some before my grocery sold out of them...

Yay! We were talking about Mother's Cookies at Thanksgiving and wondering who would buy the trademarks and receipes! Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for frosted animal cookies to be on the shelves.

Good to know. Miss those iced oatmeal cookies terribly.

woo hoo! Giant food companies aren't always evil!

Oh, hooray! :D

HOORAY is right! It made me sad not to see the Mother's variety on the shelf. It made me realize that we (I) take things for granted and just assume that they will always be there. I know, I know, its "just a cookie" but this is part of my childhood and it did make me sad not to see them. I can't wait to see them back!

This is great news! I might have to bring a bag to work for a little welcome back celebration.

Yippie!...I think...but um..what are wire-cut cookies? Do you think that *Chocolate Chip Angels* will be among the resurrected cookies? Since Kellogg's plans to resume baking only the "most popular" Mother's cookies, does anyone have a list of same handy?

I know it's been about a week and half now, but I just had to return to this post. It makes me so happy! :)

It's great that my kids can enjoy the frosted animal cookies I use stink into the cookie jar at night for!

sneak not stink, it's late!

I had a cookie craving last Saturday and walked across the street to the mini mart across from Arden Fair Mall in Sac and they had a bag of Circus Animal Cookies!

At first, I couldn't believe my eyes. Of course, I purchased the bag as it was the last one in the store, or even the last one in town! Back home, I wasn't sure if I should open the bag and eat them because they wouldn't last a week. Luckily, I found the Kellogg's press release so I started munching away.

When I heard that Archway and Mother's was bankrupt I was devastated, and wondering whatever would I do to replace my favorite store bought cookie that I eat every day with my mocha esspresso. Those frosted animal cookies are the perfect compliment to esspresso, IMO and quite frankly, I was in a bit of a panic about not being able to buy them any longer. I guess that I am addicted to them after eating them daily for so many years.

I live in a small town in the Last Frontier, and had managed to buy up all of the remaining bags left in the few grocery stores that we have here. I am on my last bag right now and stumbled upon this article when I googled Mother's Cookies. Imagine my delight at the news that Kellogg's was picking up the ball and we would be getting our beloved Circus Animal Cookies back. A million thanks Kellogg's!

It was the bag of Cookie Parade cookies that we gotta save. Yes it was full of circus animals but it had those yummy little chocolate sandwich cookies in it too. My husband was nearly in tears when we found out about Mother's going out of business those were his since childhood staple cookie. I had to go online and buy him 20 bags of cookie parade which are wrapped and under the tree now. And PLEASE KELLOGS SAVE FLAKY FLIX!!!!!!!!!

Great news!!! Will Kelloggs be keeping the english tea cookie??? I truly hope so and hopefully they will be selling them in Georgia.. Please Kelloggs keep the english tea cookie!!!

I agree with Pizzaman.
Nobody makes Iced Oatmeal like Mother's.
I cleaned out all the stores around. Now I can breath easy again!

Hopefully Kellog's won't mess with the recipe - I haven't met an MBA yet who could bake!

Thank you Kellogg's for saving my favorite cookies. The taffy sandwich
and the lemonade are total heaven. ! ! ! ! ! !
Just so you know you just made 3 adults very very happy.
Anyone know when they will be back on the shelves?
shihtzu

Here is the list.
* Circus Animals
* Iced Oatmeal cookies
* Parade Animal cookies
* Chocolate Chip
* Coconut Cocadas
* Macaroons
* Taffy Sandwich cookies
* English Tea cookies- HOORAY!!!
* Double Fudge Sandwich cookies
* Vanilla Crème Sandwich cookies
* Iced Lemon cookies

I am REALLY hoping that the english tea cookies is the mothers butters. Oh please let them be the same. I am completely devistated if they are not. I have been having people ship them to me by the case each year for my birthday since they are no where to be found in Florida. Today, instead of my cookies to go with my birthday coffee, I received the news that I will never again taste those sweet, savory morsels. If not getting older is not enough. I shall weep and pray to the cookie God's that Mother's Butters will be once again in my pantry.

Mothers Taffy sandwich cookies are a staple food on all of our family trips. They are a tradition everywhere we go. Imagine my surprise when we were shopping for our next trip and.......bam! No Taffy. The trip just wasn't the same. This family looks forward to vacationing with Taffy sandwich cookies again.
Thanks Kelloges, we will be waiting (impatiently) for your gift

I have not see any mention of Peanut Butter Gauchos. Since Mothers Peanut Butter Gauchos disappeared from the store shelves I found out that, other than Nutter Butter Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies, there are no other peanut butter sandwich cookies on the market. Once a year I have the opportunity to buy 2 cases of Girl Scout Do-Si-Do Peanut Butter Creme cookies. SO ...... PLEASE ..... PLEASE ..... PLEASE .... don't let the best peanut butter sandwich cookie on the market die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All you other "Mother's Peanut Butter Gauchos" cookies lovers get on board with me and lets make sure KELLOGGS brings those GAUCHOS with them. I did not see them on the list above, but I don't know who that list came from. Be good to us Kelloggs and please don't change the recipes

One more comment & I'll shut up:
Some people say "Go for the gusto" but
I say "Go for the gaucho".
Yeh ... Yeh .... I know .... you saw that one coming.

i really miss my mothers cookies... i can honestly say its no fun going to the cookie aisle these days i mean there are only so many varieties of chocolate chip cookies u can buy... please hurry kelloggs i am going through some serious withdrawals here june seems so far away... i think i am gonna cry when i see them back on the shelves at my local supermarket.... i miss them all every kind they made.... *sniff sniff*

we NEED the English Taffy cookies in OKIE HOMA before a war breaks out over cookies.July 1,2009 will be good time to start .

What about Flaky Flicks! I can't even remember how to spell it, it's been so long since I had any. I would have my daughter ship them from California to me in NC because they didn't have Mother's Cookies out here. My daughter sent me a picture today of some of the cookies on the self in the store! Please bring back the Flaky Flicks......

Flaky Flix, Flaky Flix, Flaky Flix...

Don't bother!! I just bought and tried (5 minutes ago) my favorite Mothers
"Taffy Cookies" and my second favorite " Circus Animal Cookies", they aren't even CLOSE to the real Mothers Cookies. How sad, except that I hate Kelloggs, and now don't have to worry about buying Mothers from them. The cookies aren't terrible, just not as good as before!

I wouldn't go so far as "don't bother", but I agree these aren't the same. They are close...replicator close...but they are not the same. I'll give them some time to dial in the recipe.

I have lived in SF for 40 years and like so many others grew up with all the Mother's products. My family is addicted to the Taffy cookies, I can not live without Iced Oatmeal.

I still say THANK YOU for bringing back the product line, but I wish more of the Oakland employees could have been saved.

Say what you will, but I'll take what I can get when it comes to my Iced Oatmeal cookies! I'm sure my family, friends and I have put many a mothers employee through college through the years, and it truly is a shame that business didn't work out for them. That being said, I do think it's SMART of Kellogg's to recognize a good thing and pick up where Mothers left off.

Just had four Iced Oatmeal cookies and a glass of milk and it sure feels like old times again. Thank you Kelloggs!

Nabisco also makes "Circus Animal" cookies. They were on the shelves a few months before the Kelloggs Mother's version. Last I looked, they're still there. They started an "old favorites" label, which includes versions of other Mothers cookies, as well (I think iced oatmeal and the English tea cookie). I'm not sure if they're any closer to the Mother's versions than the Kelloggs editions, but it's worth a try, if you're not happy with the Kelloggs. I haven't tried either, though I bought the Kelloggs English sandwich cookies tonight. I'd really like to see Iced Raisin brought back. Maybe people should write to Kelloggs about the favorites that are missing, because it sounds like they're still test-marketing and might bring out other kinds if the demand is there.

Will Flaky Flix ever come back?

Just found out Kellogg's are NOT planning on producing Mother's Gingerbread Man cookies for Holiday season this year. I am sad.
