Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: D'Artagnan Boneless Heritage Ham
Every day through January 1 we're giving away a crazy good food item on Serious Eats. Try your luck, and if you win, you'll be eating some seriously delicious food come the new year.
Holiday season is ham season, so it's only right that we give away some seriously delicious hams as part of our holiday giveaway extravaganza. The nice folks at D'Artagnan, who supplied us with those wonderful organic turkeys for our Thanksgiving giveaway, have provided us with some whole boneless heritage applewood-smoked hams this time around. This is a serious 7- to 8-pound ham that will look great on your holiday table. —Ed Levine

Exactly what I had this morning: ham and homemade apple/golden raisin chutney on fresh biscuits. The sweetness (apples and raisins), acid (cider vinegar), and tang (onions, chili flake, mustard seed) are the perfect foil for salty delicious ham.

A wonderful ham sandwich has to be done with great care.
From the bottom good rye bread slice upwards: mayo, just a little spicy mustard, lettuce, thin ham slices, thin slices of a mild cheese - provolone or swiss - VERY thin slices of Spanish onion, more ham slices, lettuce, mayo, and top bread slice. It's important not to crowd out the ham flavor with the mustard, cheese, or onion.

Country style white bread (plain or lightly toasted), a thick slice of ham, cheese (just about any kind will do - I love cheese) topped with an over-easy egg or two. Poke the yolk just slightly so the gooey yolk runs onto the ham and soaks into the bread just a little bit. Top with another piece of bread/toast or eat open-faced. A quick and easy breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack.

Most of the time, and most are guilty of doing, I just slice huge slices and eat the ham without the bread. To me, it's truly the only way to savour the flavor.

Every Thanksgiving and Christmas my nephews are with us, either at my sisters house (Virginia) or mine (Michigan). Every since the boys were little we have always had to have a ham for these holidays, so they could have their breakfast sandwich in the morning (or any other time of the day).
So the sandwich is ham cut into small pieces, scrambled eggs and shredded cheese on toast. My sister puts mayo on hers, but the rest of us like it without.

If the ham is cold, heat it up in a little olive oil, add a slice of cheese, add a slice of red onion, some lettuce (any kind), and serve on two slices of bread (any kind) that has been toasted and spread with a just a little mild mustard.

I love a basic ham, Swiss with mayo on whole wheat. But I also like to mix it up by adding garnishments both common and unusual. I have been known to enhance my ham and Swiss sandwiches with fresh tomato, dried tomato, olives, lettuce. grilled onion, broccoli, cauliflower, cole slaw, marinara sauce, brown mustard, pepper sauce, or ranch dressing. I've substituted gouda, muenster or provolone for the swiss. And pumpernickel bread fills in nicely for whole wheat. It's all good so long as the ham is good!

My favorite ham sandwich is a nice jewish rye (with caraway seeds of course), with a spicy brown mustard, aged swiss cheese, and thinly sliced ham. The outside of the bread then gets buttered and grilled till it is golden brown and the cheese is good and gooey.

I like and enjoy making a Monte Cristo using Ham and with either Cheddar, Swiss, or Provolone cheese on sourdough bread - dipped in a pancake batter then deep fried - and then I use Thousand Island dressing as a dipping sauce - ohhh these are so good.

Grind it up and make ham salad and spread it on French bread. Make sure the relish you add is sweet and that the mayo is low fat!

2 large slices of high quality white bread
generous amount of Best Food Mayonnaise on both slices
generous amount of Heinz Yellow Mustard
2 medium thick slices of D'Artagnan Boneless Heritage Ham
2 nice slices of Tillamook, medium cheddar cheese
Sometimes I like to add French’s Spicy Brown on the side for dipping.

It's hard to beat a classic ham and cheese on great bread, but in my book it's several layers of (very good quality ingredients only) thinly sliced smoked ham, plenty of swiss cheese and a sourdough sub roll. I wrap it tightly in aluminum foil and heat it completely in the oven. When I unwrap it, I add dijon mustard and mayo along with thinly sliced onion, tomato and shredded lettuce...cut in on an angle and you have a sandwich that can't be beat!

Oh my! What isn't good when paired with ham? I can't think of a thing. My favorite would be a Ham & Cheese Po-boy made in New Orleans! They do it just right, dressed and I add pickles! Oh so yummy on that soft french bread. To die for!
