Foodie Tattoos

20081204-food-tats.jpg

It's been a while since we have broached the subject of food tattoos. What better way to immortalize (well, for a time) your favorite dish, grandma's pie, or just a spicy idea? The bacon and egg tats above are from Dan, who plans on decorating his whole arm in a breakfast theme.

My bud Marleah got salt and pepper shakers on her hand and is waiting to get a slew of itsy bitsy fruits and veggies tattooed somewhere on her body. "I have a fruit and veggie collection," she wrote to me. "I really love them, shapes colors tastes!" Mmmm, just don't get caught licking your arm. I guess an image of a cupcake is undeniably classier than getting someone's name tattooed on your bum.

Food tats are also good at bringing people together. Check out the Flickr group Food Tattoos. The blog Eating Cleveland has also posted a list of its favorites.

If you were to get a food tattoo, what would you get?

I would get a tattoo of a halved avocado! That is one food I never get sick of.

I want a really detailed, botanical drawing of an artichoke.

Since I'm a Pisces, I guess it would be 2 fish. ;)

I love that artichoke idea.

mickey's malt liquor hornet logo.
my wife has a saffron crocus, an opened pommegranite and the Osborne sherry bull.

I've got a still life that includes a mango, guava, and paypaya. My tattoo artist also inked some slices of thick-cut bacon on her husband's arm and I drool everytime I see it.

I have an artichoke on my upper right thigh. I'm in need of a picture of a plum tomato. Any links for me?

Does having a tattoo in your mouth kind of count as a foodie tattoo? I think it should count for something...

If not, I guess I'm in the boat with everyone else and would probably choose...something more along the lines of utensil. I dig the salt and pepper shakers.

I've always wanted a little coffee cup somewhere, maybe on my wrist.

with hot coffee in it, of course!

@sweethunibabi - I have a botanical illustration of a strawberry plant on my forearm...because I'm from a big strawberry-growing part of California and because strawberries are my favorite fruit!

I dunno...I'm all about tattoos, but I like food in me, not on me.

Quite the collection.
We just did a round up for Edible Brooklyn's Fall 2008 issue.

How bout crossed chef knives?...or a diagram of a cow and all it's edible parts?

I want a little cupcake tattoo. Pink with sprinkles.

Lattice-topped pie

I've always wanted to get a tattoo of an eggplant.
