Win a Free Organic D'Artagnan Turkey Here!
Do you know where you're getting your turkey this year? Not yet? Then we've got a contest for you. The good folks at D'Artagnan are providing us with a turkey a day to give away to one lucky Serious Eats reader from today until Sunday, November 23.*
D'Artagnan is a purveyor of many things delicious—from pâtés to sausages, foie gras to wild mushrooms, game meat to truffles. But what we're especially interested in right now is their turkey.
D'Artagnan's certified organic birds are fed organic grains and pure spring water—no protein supplements, added poultry or fish byproducts, pesticides, or herbicides. Additionally no antibiotics, no growth hormones. The result is a poultry with great flavor, tenderness, and a 25 percent lower fat content than standard commercially raised turkey.
We will be giving away 12- to 14-pound organic free-range birds for the duration of the contest. Contest is open only to participants in the continental U.S. Details after the jump.
Win a Turkey
To enter to win, just go to Serious Eats Thanksgiving headquarters, peruse all the cool ideas, and then leave a comment on this post telling us which of our Turkey Day menu suggestions sounds the yummiest.
One (1) winner will be chosen at random among the commenters. Feel free to enter every day, but you may win only once during the lifetime of the contest. Comments for this entry will be open until 3 p.m. ET tomorrow (November 15). The standard Serious Eats contest rules apply.
* Sorry, but we have to limit shipping to the continental U.S. Birds will be shipped from D'Artagnan no later than Monday, November 24.

I was already planning on the buttermilk biscuits w/green onions, black pepper & sea salt when I saw it in the latest issue of Bon Appetit...glad to see it here too! That's my favorite.
mepolo at 3:42PM on 11/14/08
My vote would go to the Cranberry, Pear, and Ginger Chutney, from 'Bon Appétit' ... but I'm a nut for anything with cranberries or ginger. This combo sounds irresistable.
Julie D at 3:51PM on 11/14/08
The potato gratin with porcini mushrooms and mascarpone cheese, please!
magnolia8228 at 3:54PM on 11/14/08
I love the brussels sprouts with bacon side. So simple and delicious and the perfect addition to the table!
juliebugsmama at 3:54PM on 11/14/08
I'd have to vote to the Maple Cornbread.
dmorriso at 3:54PM on 11/14/08
My contribution to Thanksgiving will be 5 gallons of homebrew and 3 or 4 pounds of blood sausage, but I hope someone brings the brussels sprouts with bacon . Hell, I'd give them the bacon if they made it...

Wow, the Brussels Sprout Hash with Caramelized Shallots looks pretty amazing. I may be forced to substitute this dish for my usual charred Brussels Sprouts with Chorizo!
lukemclean at 4:03PM on 11/14/08
Do I have to choose only one?
I would say the Best Drop Biscuits, but the Oven Roasted Potato Wedges also sound great.

C.I. Brined turkey and Cranberry Pear and Ginger Chutney sounds great.
dhorst at 4:10PM on 11/14/08
I'm going to have to say the Roasted Brined Turkey from Cook's Illustrated. Cook's Illustrated always has amazing, practically foolproof recipes. Seeing as to this will be my first thanksgiving making the Turkey for the family I'm going to go with their recipe that way I don't mess up the traditional Thanksgiving poultry that so many say is easy to dry out...
blizzard854 at 4:11PM on 11/14/08
After reading the recipe for Pioneer Woman's (who I read religiously) Sweet Potatoes, I want it to be Thanksgiving now. I can't wait to try them.

Sautéed Brussels Sprouts With Bacon. I had this at a tapas restaurant and it was amazing. I'll have to try and make it for turkey day.

Having made it twice, it's hard for me to argue with the Cook's Illustrated's Roasted Brined Turkey
kaszeta at 4:26PM on 11/14/08
I'll be doing the Roasted Brined Turkey (with my own additions, of course) and the Cranberry Sauce With Champagne and Currants... that sounds absolutely gorgeous.
devlyn at 4:30PM on 11/14/08
Pumpkin cheesecake with gingersnap crust - I was searching for a recipe and HERE it was! It will go great with the pecan pie.
Just found out my daughter, 4 yo granddaughter and NEW granddaughter (5 year old my daughter took in) are taking a train from AZ to PA for a 19 day visit. I can't wait to see them, and meet Destiny! They'd love organic turkey - me too! Mario Batali said everything from D'Artagnan is wonderful.
PerkyMac at 4:30PM on 11/14/08
I think the Pioneer Woman's Sweet Potatoes sound amazing! I think I just may try them this year.
carolinemarie at 4:33PM on 11/14/08
I'd want to try the foolproof pie crust because I am always looking for that perfect crust for a pie. Making crust is really an art form, just like pizza, you just have to take your time to master it.

Cornbread Sausage Stuffing with Apples, straight from the Silver Palate
lesliepariseau at 4:37PM on 11/14/08
I automatically love pumpkin-inspired dessert, but the sweet potato casserole trifle sounds really interesting too. I love creamy desserts, and this one may almost be healthy! Plus, who could forget the episode of Friends where Rachel inadvertently makes a trifle with shepherd's pie ingredients :).
runnereater at 4:39PM on 11/14/08
That easy menu is awesome, especially the apple cranberry crisp. And since this is the first year I'm cooking the whole dinner, I might just go with it!

bessfour at 4:46PM on 11/14/08
I too must cast my vote for one of the desserts - the pumpkin pie cheesecake. I admit I have a weakness for both things - so combining them has to be good! Time to go invest in a springform pan...

Ham in coke... though I prefer dr pepper.

pumpkin pie brulee...any excuse to light something on fire.
skim at 4:50PM on 11/14/08
I'll throw in a vote for the "Cornbread Stuffing Muffins with Ham and Sage, from 'Bon Appétit."
On my Thanksgiving table the biscuits always feel like filler before the meal. Now I can elevate them to truly something worth a spot next to a slice of roasted turkey.
Mike13241 at 4:51PM on 11/14/08
The brussels sprouts with bacon sounds really good...
SredniV at 4:52PM on 11/14/08

i LOVE Brussels sprouts with bacon
MMMmbbacon at 5:21PM on 11/14/08
Well, I would say that the Dried Cranberry, Apricot, and Fig Stuffing sounds the best, but I would NEVER make a stuffing on Thanksgiving that wasn't my mom's. It's amazing! But I digress... I'm going to have to go with the Maple-Walnut Cornbreads. I'm a sucker for ALL THINGS maple. Mmmm...
AlsoAlwaysHungry at 5:24PM on 11/14/08

My Own Favorite Roast Turkey Recipe. Sure everything else sounds great, but when it comes down to it I think a simple yet perfectly done turkey is the highlight of the thanksgiving meal. Plus I love James Beard.

Definitely the potato/porcini/mascarpone gratin.

I love the Garlic Potatoes recipe. I am looking for something to cook for my picky parents this year. They have finally agreed to let me cook some food for them!
xoomie at 6:18PM on 11/14/08
It's gotta be Gourmet's Cranberry Grappa Jelly. Last year I added some tequila and lime zest to my cranberry sauce and it was truly delicious. I'm convinced cranberries and alcohol are a good thing.
I'd make the bacon brussels sprouts in a flash, but there are always vegetarians at our Thanksgiving meals, so the side dishes need to stay meat free :-(

Wow. I am going to have to try my hand at the Salted Roast Turkey with Herbs and Shallot-Dijon Gravy: That sound scrumptious! And while I'm more of a cranberry relish kind of girl, the Cranberry Sauce with Champagne and Currants just might talk me over to the sauce side of the berry. NOM.

I'm going to try this:
Pumpkin Cheesecake with Marshmallow-Sour Cream Topping and Gingersnap Crust
I had already decided on pumpkin cheesecake and this recipe looks very good. But I have never made a cheesecake from scratch so I told everybody coming that they should definitely bring their own favorite dessert as a welcome Plan B.

To me, Thanksgiving = stuffing, so my mouth is watering over Silver Palate's Corn Bread-Sausage Stuffing With Apples
miamia at 11:23PM on 11/14/08
It's gotta be the maple walnut corn bread
bobfole at 11:23PM on 11/14/08
Chipotle Meatballs definitely sound the yummiest; I love chipotles AND anything with meat makes my day!
Tahitinova at 11:33PM on 11/14/08
I'll have to go with the sauteed Brussels sprouts with bacon. We usually oven roast sprouts, but sauteed with bacon? Gotta' try them.
LesDuLunch at 11:50PM on 11/14/08
Aside from the drop biscuits, i've got my eye on the Day After Cranberry muffins! We're a cranberry kind of family (I put no less than three types on the table for the Big Day) so I'll be using my spiced cranberries for this receipe!
And, new to our table this year will be brussels sprouts!
mcanna at 11:55PM on 11/14/08
I'm going to try the The Silver Palate's Pureed Broccoli With Creme Fraiche. My significant other's Green Bean Casserole needs competition.

I'm going to try the maple corn bread as well.
yankeesgal at 12:36AM on 11/15/08
Oooooooh the Cranberry Sauce Morning-After Muffins. Cranberry sauce is my FAVORITE -- and to make use of the leftover relish the day after by making muffins? Genius.
denaluna at 12:37AM on 11/15/08
Pumpkin cheesecake, I already had that downloaded. Pumpkin pie is fine for one slice, but that's about enough. But pumpkin cheesecake is something else entirely.
dbcurrie at 12:40AM on 11/15/08
It may not be the most popular, but brussel sprouts with bacon is easily my favorite side.
akharaz at 12:44AM on 11/15/08
Baking With Dorie: Corniest Corn Muffins. It sounds moist. My cornbread is always so dry and I follow the recipes to the tea. I will try this one this year.
blizcheetah at 12:47AM on 11/15/08
Japanese sweet potatoes with scallion butter! I think this would be great with a little bit of miso mixed in the butter, too.
emmab at 12:58AM on 11/15/08
The brussel sprouts with bacon for sure!!
derekhinton2003 at 1:11AM on 11/15/08
That classic menu is looking good this year!!!! I'm loving that cornbread dressing & those mashed potatoes. Keeping it classic this year is the way to go. Want to remind the family how things used to be in this crazy world we live in today. A little bit of comfort & time to give thanks for what we still have.

The article on James Beard's roast turkey. I miss James Beard.

Sour Cream Pumpkin Pie ~
rangrace at 10:14AM on 11/15/08
The brussel sprouts with bacon sounds great and will definately be on my menu this year along with the Corniest corn muffins. I looked at the rice and oyster stuffing but think I will stick with our traditional bread stuffing with oysters. If I served dinner without it I would be removed from the family. Some traditions you just don't monkey with.
mensa63 at 10:19AM on 11/15/08
I found a few new recipes to use for Thanksgiving - can't wait to try the Brussel Sprouts with Bacon - they sound wonderful!
susitravl at 10:22AM on 11/15/08
Everything I looked at sounds great, but SaraBir's take on Nigella's Ham in Coca-Cola caught my attention first. I'd definately use Mexican or kosher coke, as SaraBir recommends. And her suggestion to use the ham pot liquor for a black bean soup is brilliant. I'm sold.
Susquehanna at 10:25AM on 11/15/08
mmmmmmm - drop biscuits... I think we'll be having morning after turkey biscuits... (and day of biscuits, and week before biscuits...)
cocodazzle at 10:26AM on 11/15/08
Hmm maple-walnut cornbread all the way!
wanderingfoodie at 10:28AM on 11/15/08

We're all fond of Brussels Sprouts, but the Sauteed with Bacon recipe sounds like it would zip them up considerably. I believe I'll try that.

The Corn Bread Sausage Stuffing with Apples sounds mouthwatering, like comfort food. The dressing is always a key point of our holiday faire. The sauteed brussels sprouts with bacon sound like an interesting addition -- we are always looking for new vegetable complements.
skytoucher at 1:34PM on 11/15/08
James Beard did like his butter, didn't he? I would probably forgo the traditional "stuffing" of the bird and put it on the side.
Michael Z at 1:40PM on 11/15/08
The Cranberry, Pear, and Ginger chutney sounds delicious - I've never actually had chutney, but I love those three things, and it would certainly be better than the stuff shaped like the can I'll be getting this year.

Wild Mushroom Bundles sounds really good. we always like to do at least one mushroom dish for the table. I looked at alternative to turkey, but was disappointed that there was only one veg idea and it sounded kind of gross.
