Martha Tries Philly Cheesesteak for First Time, Prefers Geno's to Pat's

In this video from Philly.com, Stewart admits she's never had a cheesesteak. Sure she's had a cheesesteak, just not in Philly. Come on, Martha! Philadelphia is, like, 90 minutes away (on a good traffic day)! Given a Pat's and a Geno's cheesesteak to try, she calls Pat's bland and says Geno's is better, though she doesn't seem that enthused about cheesesteaks in general.

I saw this place on Parking Wars. The "parking police" they were featuring ate there. It looked so good.

Who doesn't like cheesesteak? Even vegetarians like their fake meat cheesesteak. Every time I go to Philly, I eat one for almost every meal!

Personally, I'd have sent Martha to Jim's on South Street. Mmmm.

Call me a heretic - I don't like Philly cheesesteaks and I've lived in The City of Brotherly Love (and lived to tell!).

I have yet to try Geno's, but last time at Pat's, it was bland compared to previous respites from I-95

I was just there on Friday. Got a wiz wit. I made my mother sit in the car. If you order wrong they send you to the back of the line. We also went by Termini's and picked up a box of goodies. I heart Philly!
I also heart Jim's.

She should have gone somewhere else!

I'm sure either place is stil lbetter than most of the places we have in my part of Va. It's hard to find a true cheesesteak down here. Most make them with that pressed beef that's similar to Steak-Um. When you do find a place that slices their own rib-eye or sirloin, they put peppers, shrooms, and nasty mayo on them. That is not a true cheesesteak.
I just make mine at home on the good ol' cast iron skillet, and slice my own steak with a hand cranked meat slicer. That way I get the best in town, at half the cost. It's as close a I can get to the real thing.

I would never ever go to Geno's - not because the steaks there are particularly bad but because of the stupid, racist "Order in English" policy. Nearby Pat's is better anyway.
If it has to be cheesesteak, then at least go to John's (Roast Pork) on 14 Snyder Ave. - that is where I take out-of-towners who succumbed to the Philly cheese steak mystique and can't leave town without having tried one.

Don't forget last summer when Martha S was on 'the Next Food Network Star' a competition judge. And she went on record, when served some pub food by Kelsey that 'she did not eat that kind of food'. I think Cheesesteaks fall into that category.

I live a few blocks from Cheesesteak Corner and they both suck. Get a roast pork sandwich instead with provolone and broccoli rabe from John's Roast Pork, Tony Luke's, or DiNics.

Yes. Jim's on South Street is the steak for me too. Geno's and Pat's are bland and overrated.
Nick's Roast Beef or Pork is pretty darn special too!

I ate at Pat's about 2 years ago and was disappointed. My cheese steak was lukewarm because they piled cooked steaks off to the side and used those for the sandwiches instead of giving you a steak hot off the grill. I heard that they were much better years ago.
Never did try Geno's, however, I don't know why those people such as "epices6" find it 'racist' to insist on ordering in English. I thought this was supposed to be America we live in where everyone should learn to speak English! It's because of bleeding heart liberals such as "epices6" that Spanish is on just about every item we purchase. What A Disgrace!!
By far, the best Cheesesteak I had in Philly is at a place around the corner from Pat's and Geno's called Cosmi's Deli. I found out about it from Frommer's or Foder's Philadelphia guide. It was from a local columnist in Philly who had sampled cheese steaks from about 60 different establishments in the Philly area, including Pat's and Geno's, and said that Cosmi was the best he tasted.
