Chewing the Fat: Alton Brown on Fried Chicken

About six months ago we decided that it would be fun to produce more original video segments for Serious Eats. When I made a list of interesting people I wanted to interview on camera for a series called Chewing the Fat, Alton Brown was at the top of the list. Why? Because whenever I have watched him on the Food Network or chatted with him (ever so briefly) when I was an Iron Chef judge, I have always found Alton to be interesting, provocative, smart, and funny. We were thrilled when Alton agreed to do it. Who did we get to shoot, direct, and edit the Alton videos? None other than Hamburger America director and author George Motz.

On this week's Chewing the Fat webisode, our man Alton goes deep into the world of fried chicken. Southern fried chicken, to be exact. Alton and his crew show up at what is one of the world's great fried chicken joints. The crew eats all the available chicken, leaving Alton holding the bag—or should I say, his hog. Does he end up going fried chicken-less? Watch and find out.

The Feasting on Asphalt DVDs are available at Foodnetwork.com and the book is available at Amazon.

i desperately want fried chicken now.

OMG! MORE ALTON! I just fell off the chair laughing so hard! Now I'll have the vision of Col Sanders pole dancing and AB sitting there with a fist full of ones! Thank You Ed! SE always makes my day but now thursdays are my fav day of the week!

Colonel Sanders pole dancing!!! That is why I *heart* Alton.
I'd like to see HIM pole dancing....er....wait, maybe not.

Everytime I hear that theme song, I am possessed to put on Rush's album 'Signals', and crank 'Digital Man'.

I remember that episode. I was drooling all over my couch. I've got to have some of that chicken.

I always tell people who aren't from the south. If you see an old black lady with a can of lard or Crisco in one hand and a cast iron skillet in the other, you better follow close behind her. My friend's mother makes fried chicken that is to die for. I've never had anything that has come close yet. Not even when I make it myself, can I reproduce what she creates. It's an art.

Well, not ANY old, Black lady. I wouldn't eat ANYTHING from my mom! LOL!

There is no cook on TV yummier than Alton, now if he would just get back to that hairstyle again!!!

I'm ok with the new do....however I do wish Alton would curtail the cutesy lip smacking and open mouth chewing sounds for effect on Good Eats. Really Alton, you're too good.

There is nothing better than good fried chicken and nothing worse than bad fried chicken. I could eat chicken every day of my life.
