Ted Allen 'Food Detectives' Show Renewed for Second Season

20081013-tedallen.jpgSays Ted Allen: "We’re going back into production ASAP, and we’re bringing on new blood to smooth over the bumps that some of you were kind enough to point out (ahem) in season one. We’re taking every aspect of the show to the next level: the set, the myths and questions we tackle, the design of the experiments."

I like Ted Allen on Iron Chef America as a judge, and as a guest on Boy Meets Grill, but I really couldn't stand all the ... I'll call it "extra personality" that was on display on Food Detectives. The whole show seemed silly and overdone, which is a shame because I love watching those kinds of myth-busting shows on food, e.g. Alton Brown showing how washing mushrooms under a faucet doesn't saturate them with water, or how searing meat does not seal juices, even though that phrase continues to be used in a number of Food Network shows. So here's hoping the improvements work...

Please, Ted--leave the myth-busting to the mythbusters. You suck at it.

I like the show quite a bit, but Ted Allen's almost Howard Cosell-esque narration annoys me. I know he doesn't talk like that all the time, even on Food Detectives... It's just a little over the top. And what's with the Food Techs not being able to say anything?

Here's hoping they can work out the bugs next season, because it's a show that needs to be done by someone, and done well.

Yeah, he spends most of the show yelling. Microscopes, glasses and thick books do not a science show make.

I do like Ted Allen on Top Chef and Iron Chef.

This show is just plain stupid. Do the Food Network execs actually think this is good T.V.?

I think Ted Allen, is a nice guy and all...But really he should stick to Top Chef, Iron Chef and of course Queer Eye. His Food Networks show, is no good.

Doctor Adam Ruben is my hero.

I agree with cam and scoggdog. I like Ted Allen on Top Chef and Iron Chef, but on this one he overdoes the cheese factor, like he's trying to be like Alton Brown. The thing about Alton Brown is, he's just being himself so it works.

If they let everyone talk like a real person, it would be watchable. As it is, it's like a real people talking like cartoon characters.

I think the idea was to be cheesey and kinda' campy, but it is a bit annoying - a little bit toooooo far over the line of cheesey and campy (if that's possible). I do enjoy the content of the show, though. The fact that there are people on the show who work with science does help, and there have been some funny moments. It would, indeed, be good to have talking "food techs". A little genuine humor could/would go a long way!

Maybe Alton's contract is getting to expensive for them. They need to find a "replacement" before selling Good Eats and thus putting the final nail in their coffin.

I am really starting to get tired of the new generation of food network shows. I never even really watch anymore, except for iron chef america and sometimes ina or giada. seriously, when did overacting super-fake made-for-t.v personalities become so popular? Its like every show has to be some sort of adventure, but in a bad way. it seems like watching the discovery kids channel.

I miss Molto Mario, where the camera never leaves his kitchen, so what he is saying and doing actually has to be interesting.

is anyone else with me? Is this just how t.v is and I'm just now realizing it?...

molto mario was so good. it was so low key and focused on the knowlege he had accumulated through working and travelling. food network now has become like mtv-- fast, high energy, without much substance.
