Photo of the Day: Cranberry Bog Season in Massachusetts

Photograph from AndWat on Flickr
I hope this little girl always remembers how beautiful cranberries swirling in a bog can be. Last weekend, she and others celebrated the National Cranberry Festival at Edaville USA, home to a 1300-acre cranberry plantation in Carver, Massachusetts. Activities included: train rides through bogs and staring wistfully at berries.

How do the cranberries end up in the bog? This is interesting! I thought the Ocean Spray people just made that up for fun in their commercial - didn't know it was real!

@arathi: Here's a really good explanation of the cranberry bog-ification.

Cool! I always thought the same as arathi; I didn't know this was real! Thanks Erin :)

Yes, I remember this time of year so fondly having lived in MA for 33 years. Nothing prettier than a cranberry bog with the sun setting low over them...like a pond full of jewels.

Is it just me or does anyone else find this photo kind of eerie. Maybe it's the lone country road or only seeing the back of the little girl's head or the fact that it's so close to Halloween, but it looks like the cover of a Stephen King novel. I keep expecting a car to come barreling down the road almost hitting the girl as she uses her psychic abilities to bend the cranberries to her will creating a wall between her and the oncoming car. Dark Night on the Ocean Spray Road.

Erin,
Thanks for the link to the photo.
FoodBully, perhaps you should switch to decaf cranberry juice :)
No kids, cars or cranberries were harmed in the making of this photo.
