Korean Corn Ice Cream Novelty Fails

20081030-cornicecream.jpg

Who wouldn't want to try a rod of corn-flavored ice cream covered in a chocolate shell and wrapped in a cob-shaped wafer? Daniel Gray of food blog Seoul Eats excitedly tried this Korean ice cream novelty, but was ultimately disappointed. He described the taste as, "Sorta like soggy popcorn that fell on a pile of yellow snow." Yeah, I'm going to skip that one.

That's odd. I've tried that thing and really enjoyed it.

i love that the packaging translates to Corn Yum.

I've tried it also and I really enjoyed it. The corn flavor isn't very pronounced, however. Also the black stuff if I remember correctly is red bean, not chocolate.

The packaging actually translates to "Corn Beard Ice" in small lettering on top and "Roasted Corn" in larger letters.

I had a sweet corn popsicle in thailand and it was amazing. Sweet corn is all over the place in SE Asia, and I liked pretty much all of it :)

I don't know why everyone in Korea thinks that corn is some sort of delicacy. I mean it's in the pizza, salad, candy and ice tea. Thanks for the comments.

Daniel doesn't know what he's talking about. I blogged about the corn ice cream a long time ago. It's awesome!

My mom made sweet corn ice cream when I was a kid, and I liked it. Since then, I've always gotten excited when I heard other versions were floating around out there. I wish I could try one of these!

Oh my goodness, I miss the corn ice cream novelties I used to eat in Beijing. Those didn't have the chocolate shell or whatever that is, though - just mildly corn-flavored ice cream wrapped in something like a Communion wafer. On a stick!

Zen, It tasted pretty awful. In the Philippines, I saw a guy put corn ice cream on a hamburger bun; it does look as cool as the corn cob shell.

It says "ice" in Korean phonetically! hahahah!!

great, more corn ice cream for me... our whole family LOVES it..
