In Videos: Iron Chef Japan 'Cooking Japanese' Music Video Spoof

20081024-ironchefvideo.jpg

To promote Iron Chef Japan, Fine Living Network made this fake music video spoofing "Turning Japanese" by the Vapors. Watch close up of various things being chopped and gutted to a catchy song. You'll have "I'm cooking Japanese I think I'm cooking Japanese by Morimoto," stuck in your head all day long! Video, after the jump.

I've been watching this show for many years now, and I'm glad FLN started rebroadcasting them (sadly, sans "Backdraft" theme-music).

It's hilarious to see "Iron Chef America" on Food Network fail so spectacularly at trying to recreate this one-of-a-kind show. Alton, I like you and respect you but please stick to your day job. Chairman Kaga's nephew, I can hardly watch you.

The hacking off of eel heads - asparagus braised in $2,000 worth of lobster - a piece of foie gras as big as my fist frying in a wok - the kitchy yet somehow familiar voice overdubs. That's what makes this show so freaking cool.

I guess they have to use Morimoto's name since he's more recognized in the US, but to just only quickly flash pictures of the other chefs. Especially Kenichi and Sakai who are in way way more matches and have better winning percentages. That just seems wrong.

Well, technically, Morimoto is the only one "cooking Japanese". Kenichi is a Chinese chef and Sakai cooks French. Plus, Morimoto has the right number of syllables for the song.

OH MY GOD THAT'S SWEET!

I love the "cooking japanese, cooking japanese, like mori-mo-to..."

ahah and the "Is that liver?....I'll never know..."

I love that commercial.

I just realized these were back on FLN. I'm totally psyched, been recording all of them. I miss jolly old Chen Kenichi.

Robyn, you are my ultimate hookup for things that crack my face up (I mean, make me smile). This is too rad!

wait what? someone's Turning Japanese all day long? damn...

Ok, who knows what the host is shouting at the opening buzzer to start cooking? My husband says it's "Haute Cuisine!!" I think maybe "Go Cook!" or "Allez Cuisinier!!" Both are french which doesn't make sense. What is he really saying? Now that it is back on FLN, the debate has resumed.

@lambowner it's "Allez cuisine!" (wikipedia: Pseudo-French for "Get to the kitchen!" or "Start cooking!")

Ha! I win! The sticky beans on last night's episode were pseudo-yucky, too. Thanks!
