In Videos: Weird Al Yankovic's 'Eat It'

20081028-eatitbeatit.jpg

Yesterday was a real trip for anyone who remembers when MTV actually played music. The network launched mtvmusic.com, making available a gigantic web library of original music videos. Though many food-related favorites come to mind, it's hard not to recall Weird Al Yankovic's take on Michael Jackson's "Beat It."

Don't you tell me you're full, just eat it/ Get yourself an egg and beat it/ If it's gettin' cold, reheat it/ Have some more chicken, have some more pie. It doesn't matter if it's boiled or fried/ Just eat it

The next time someone gives you sass about their food, borrow some of Weird Al's lines. Both videos, after the jump.

Can't forget about one of the best demonstrations of food-meets-music... the scene from the movie Krushgroove where the Fat Boys bust out with the song "All You Can Eat"

Oh yeah! Weird Al: "I Love Rocky Road". I love rocky road, so won't you and buy half a gallon, baby/ I love rocky road, so have another triple scoop with me!

A funny story about the Weird Al version is, that's how I remember it! Seriously, I have hummed along to the song forever, but always inserted "Just eat it" into the lyrics. I sent my mom the video and told her that's the version I recalled and she verified my childhood memory.

In an email she wrote, "When you watched it, it was a Sesame Street sketch. I wonder which one did it first? Bert and Ernie or Weird Al?"

Now I wonder too, and have to say I am a little perturbed Sesame Street has stuck with me for so long!

I am sort of in love with Weird Al. I think my favorite food themed song is "The Rye or the Kaiser".

I always loved "Taco Grande" and "Lasagna".

Oh, please warn us furriners in advance when things won't play outside the US .. I had my hopes all up and everything [slowly expiring from lack of Weird Al fix] ..

"Soup Is Good Food"-Dead Kennedys
"will play for gumbo"- Jimmy Buffet
"Chitlins Con Carne"- Stevie Ray Vaughn
"Lunch Lady Land"- Adam Sandler

All must haves in the food music category......
