Deep-Fried Jelly Bean Time at the Texas State Fair

20081014-texas.jpgOnly five more days of the Texas State Fair (it ends October 19), which means only five more days of Jelly Bellys rolled in funnel cake batter, then deep-fried. The menu also includes: fried grilled cheese, fried s'mores, fried Pop Rocks, a fried dinner roll, and fried cantaloupe pie.

Oh, I can't wait! I'm headed to Dallas for a wedding, and I'm going to introduce my fiance to the wonders of the State Fair of Texas. For me, it's all about Fletcher's Corny Dogs and the Creative Arts building, where I can stare at row after row of jams, jellies, and green beans artfully packed into jars. He is looking forward to the chicken fried bacon and has no interest in home canning. Fortunately, we should both enjoy ourselves!

This is sad- I was born and raised in Texas, and I have never gone to the state fair. We lived too far away as a kid, and now although I'm in Austin and it's only 3 hours away, there is no excuse not for me to go. Grrrr to me.

Try the fried cheese curds. You can't go wrong with a Fletcher's corny dog and cold beer.

Been a long time lurker, but I just had to sign on so I can comment on this. The Virginia State Fair held in Richmond VA, just ended and on one of the last nights a few friends and I were on a mission to find... FRIED COKE.

Yes. Fried Soda. They had other flavors too!

Basically, they make a little syrup concoction/paste of the soda and batter it up and dunk it in the fryer.

I was prepared to hate it, but alas EVERYTHING FRIED IS GOOD.

Mmmm...fried.

I think the yummiest thing I've ever eaten that was fried was a fried oreo on the boardwalk last summer.

It was like, the most deliciously wrong dessert ever.
