'Chocolat,' by Stéphan Lagorce: You Mean I Can't Eat It?

Oh! There's a giant bar of chocolate on the Serious Eats conference table!

The book's called Chocolat, by Stéphan Lagorce, culinary instructor on the science of chocolate at the Agro Paris Tech Science and Industry Institute.

I was initially angry because I'm hungry right now and wanted some chocolate.

"I'll just break me off a chunk of this giant novelty Hershey's bar," I thought. No dice.

But the book does look pretty good, with beautiful shots of chocolate in all its forms. Would make a nice gift as a coffee table book for your chocoholic friend or family member. Available at Amazon.com »

What does that sucker weigh? Wouldn't it have been nice if there were a box of chocolates hidden inside one of the hard covers? All truffles would have suited me fine, but no jelly's or nougats, please.

hehe Those pictures made me giggle.

In 8th grade there was a guy in my class who's father worked for Nestle. For some holiday class party, the kid offered to bring chocolate.

He showed up that day with a 10-pound Nestle Crunch bar and a hammer. It was a good three or four inches thick and while made out of the exact same chocolate and crispy rice as a normal size bar, it was hard as a brick and difficult to eat.

If you hit it just right with the hammer you could get some edible chunks to cleave off, with little crumbs flying everywhere.

Fantastic marketing scheme, though I'm sure that adds a pretty penny to the cost of the book. I'll wait for the paperback version ;-)

I sent a huge hershey bar to my sister for her anniversary. I think it took them 6 months to eat it all and she said it was harder to eat as well. She did enjoy the novelty of it.

You're in an office around Halloween with no handy chocolate? Even if it wasn't 'Serious Eats' headquaters--I'd be shocked!

Adam. You kind of look like Seth Rogan.

@HeartofGlass: We *do* have Halloween candy around. Lots of it. But the thought of a GIANT bar of chocolate got my hopes up.

@wunami: Heh. Thanks. I'm often mistaken for Josh "Mister Cutlets" Ozersky.
