Quote of the Day: Culturally Challenged
"Many towns in the South have an active hot dog culture." —Ed Levine, referring to Martha's hot dog list. (Incidentally, I love this response to Ed's quote.)

Anyone interested in the real local perspective in a (mostly) southern State with its own glorious hot dog culture should head over to the West Virginia Hot Dog Blog.
Ketchup lovers beware. The true West Virginia Hot Dog will have none of your tomato sauce (unless it's used in the chili, or 'sauce' that's slathered on the hot dog).
In fact, the two hot dogs with slaw, chili, mustard, and onions I had today for lunch as part of my combo with chips and a drink for $4.50 were 'real' West Virginia hot dogs. And they were GOOD.

Wow. Considering they missed the whole rest of the country, this isn't by any means anything but a "local" and personal list.
Last Thursday evening I had a couple good dogs at a Sam's Hot Dog Stand in Marmet, WV. (Pics and details of what I had are here.) I would put them on my own list, along with the sausage makers of German Village south of Columbus. The possibilities are incredibly endless, and any valid list might well be a lengthy one.

@kitchengeeking: THANK YOU. What an awesome, totally niche food blog. That is so cool.

@kitchengeeking ... I did not see your comment until after posting my own. Cool coincidence! ;-)

Completely random internets!
I haven't been to the Marmet Sam's, but the Hale Street shop has sure made a few bucks off me over the past four years.

@ Adam: Thanks. They've been one of my favorite reads for a while now. And have been on the money with their reviews too. They take it very seriously.
