KFC Goes to DEFCON 1 to Secure 11 Herbs and Spices
The fried chicken chain wants to choke any attempts at theft by upgrading security, moving the "yellowing sheet of paper" the recipe is written on to an undisclosed location. "I don't want to be the president who loses the recipe,' KFC President Roger Eaton said. 'Imagine how terrifying that would be.'" Only two company executives (whose identities are also undisclosed) have access to it at a time. [via Ellit]

Anyone with a brain, taste buds and a deep fryer can clone that chicken.
Took me 2 tries. Now that is funny.

That slip of paper is probably worth a whole lot more money than people realize, if only as an historical artifact. Sure, just about anyone can fry chicken and probably get the flavor close. But corporate security between companies is what shut down the old Kellogg factory tours in the 1980s. Laugh if you want, but all industries have espionage issues.
Folks have also forgotten his major contribution: Pressure frying was his idea, specifically to cut down on prep time. Myself, I like the stuff.

The last time KFC used 11 herbs and spices in their chicken recipe Carter was still in office. Today it's just salt, pepper, flour, and MSG. Even the gravy has degenerated to wallpaper paste.

Wow @FoodBully, you must be hitting all the bad ones. The ones here in Michigan have the same good flavor they did 30 - 40 years ago.
