Reviewed: 99-Cent Ikea Chocolate

Ikea recently launched their own line of chocolate bars, all German-made with three different varieties: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and hazelnut. Coming in at 99 cents per 100 gram bar, Ikea even sweetens the deal by offering three for $2.70. At that price point, you really can't have high expectations, but we were pleasantly surprised.
The milk and dark chocolates were distinctly German, tasting similar to Kinder, but had an aftertaste that was subtly reminiscent of cheap Easter chocolate.
The hazelnut variety was the clear winner, a resounding favorite in the Serious Eats office. All three would do well in, say, chocolate chip cookies. They're also good on their own, beating the pants off of grocery store chocolates like Hershey's. So after spending a couple hours navigating through the labyrinth that is Ikea—finding fine Swedish flat-pack sundries and goods—you might as well pick up these chocolate bars near the register, particularly the hazelnut. You won't be disappointed. And if you are, you're only down a buck.

Okay, this might be an exception to my "do not eat something whose name/ingredients you cannot pronounce" rule. I could daydream happily all day about how to pronounce that first bar's name. =)
