Gates, Seinfeld Discuss Computers That Are 'Moist and Chewy Like Cake …'

"... so that we can eat them while we’re working." So goes some of the pointless banter in this dreadful commercial for Microsoft, after the jump. Fast forward to about a minute in for the relevant food-related drivel.

I’d rather eat an Apple.

i actually found it to be really funny! i laughed out loud more than once.

I think it's hilarious when Bill Gates wiggles his butt at the end...

Same here. Very witty. "La Conquistadore" -- hehe. Cake-like computers coming (hey, triple alliteration!) to store shelves near you!

@All: OK. I will have to re-watch with a more open mind. Or, it might be a case of diff'rent strokes.

I'm with Adam on this one. This commerical got plenty of scoffs and eye rolls from my friends (who all have Macs, coincidentally.)

I saw this a couple of times over the weekend, and just thought, "huh?" Surely there must be some point to producing this expensive ad, I just can't tell what it is on the surface. Perhaps there will be a sequel to explain.

I thought it was hysterical...I was actually ruminating on this the other day and was like "Why is Seinfeld in a commercial with Bill Gates of all people?" and concluded Bill must be a Seinfeld fan and just wanted to make a commercial. I was also struck by how similar his PC counterpart looks like him in the Apple commercials - I hadn't realized just how similar they got him.
Oh and the butt wiggle? Is freaking AWESOME. Esp cuz he's got frumpy old white man butt. Hahahahaha. It's so absurd as to be funny! WHY would you eat your computer? Well, WHY would Seinfeld be teaching Bill gates how to break in his shoes? (And isn't that one of Costanza's lines, wearing clothes in the shower? Seems more George than Jerry...)

I thought the commerical was pretty funny myself - it kinda felt like a Wes Anderson movie, in that it was pretty random, and flashed around to a lot of different characters to explain the scene.

I work on both Mac and PC, though, so maybe I'm just more open minded than most.

Its an absolutely brilliant commercial. People are talking about it all over the internet, in newspapers and on the radio (I'm sure on TV as well, but I haven't seen that for myself).

My read on it is that its more of a concept commercial (I'm making that phrase up, I have no idea if there's an industry term for this) like many of the Nike spots or Target ads in which nothing in particular is advertised or featured, but the general idea of the brand is being built. I think Microsoft is setting out to alter how it's perceived by some folks.

Its also got so little to do with food that I'm surprised it ended up on Serious Eats. If anything, the churro is a better topic.
