Pork Martini: Four Ways

Dried pork, ground pork, Italian sausage, and Spam: who will win?
"The pork Martini serves many needs on many levels!" exclaimed Josh Karpf in his introduction to his search for the perfect pork martini. Such an illustrious quest involved soaking sweet dried pork, pan-sautéed ground pork, boiled sweet Italian dinner sausage, and sautéed Spam in separate glasses of 100-proof Absolut vodka for up to two weeks. Not every pork product was equal—the results put the Italian sausage at the top ("the taste was crisp") and Spam at the way, way bottom ("It's pure salt [...] oily, slimy salt"). Pork and alcohol enthusiasts, you should try this at home. [via Cheap Ass Food]

I'll try anything once. But I must say, this doesn't look very promising. Not sure exactly why we really need pork martinis...

Well, I can't say I'm one to try pork martinis....but then again, I'm currently making bacon vodka. Bacon martinis anyone?

What kind of bacon are you using? I can see how bacon vodka might work if combined with something appropriately sweet like, duh, maple flavors. Maybe I'm just being too conservative.

Hmmm, maybe those sweet cured Chinese sausages, thinly sliced, might be pretty goood....and what about Chorizo, thin slivers of prosciutto or...JAMON! very interesting idea...

Give me an olive, onion, cherry, or citrus twist and I'm smiling. Stick in a hunk o' pork and I'd definitely hurl. Seriously.

I don't foresee too many people being comfortable with a big honkin piece of sausage floating in their martini. But maybe that's just me.
